I was keen on purchasing a handheld vacuum cleaner, as I had recently got a new car, and I felt it would be convenient to invest in something that is portable and practicable. I had previously purchased a handheld on Amazon which cost between £20-£30, from an independent seller. I didn't feel it had anywhere near the power I was expecting or required. So after doing some research into handheld Vacuums, I came across the BLACK + DECKER PIVOT 18v; I watched videos of it performing and was impressed, so I decided to buy one.

I can honestly say that this product is top quality, and is adequate for my needs. The suction power is great, I'd rate it's power 5/5. For a handheld, it's comparable to a corded vacuum. It's a little heavy on the hand, especially if you've been holding it for the full length of it's run time, (approx. 10mins full charge).

The extendable hose at the front of the vacuum is very useful - as is the pivoting mechanism which enables you to reach otherwise difficult places. There is also a useful brush pad, which folds out from under the tip of the main hose.

Access to the filtration basket for cleaning can be done with ease by simply holding in the button which is located on the base of the hose at the top, and rotating the handle on the device round.

The run time of this vacuum is sufficient for smaller jobs. The compromise of the lower battery life in comparison to some other handheld vacuums - which can be very costly, is worth it based on the sheer power performance of the suction.

Battery life and filter replacements needed

Like all chargeable devices, we know the lifetime is limited. Think of your mobile phone for instance. I bought this Dustbuster PV1820L two years ago on Amazon for £53 new. (I see it's now much dearer than that.) The battery has about packed up holding any charge. Typically just out of the 2 year warranty. For a start we had a least 20 minutes run time, so we were extremely pleased. Now I need to replace it and just a new battery will set you back £100 from most suppliers. At twice the cost of the initial purchase price, clearly I won't be bothering. The replacement batteries are all genuine too. Couldn't find a compatible version for less cost. Last year I needed to put a new filter in because I was struggling to clean the old one adequately to keep the performance up, so again, slightly disappointed in longevity. I shall be considering the cost and availability of replacement batteries and filters for my next choice of cordless vacuum. Take heed...

Had this for just over a year, was working great for a while, but the battery suddenly packed in and now lasts only about 10-15 seconds before having to turn it off and on again to get another 10-15 seconds, which works about 5-10 times then it just stops entirely. Definitely not worth buying if you want to use it long term ie more than just a few times.

What a good buy. Yes it's a bit noisy but you're not running it for hours. Glad that I didn't buy the cheaper versions.

An added bonus it that we use it to catch flies! Sneak up on the little blighters with the motor running and watch them disappear down the shute. Saves on fly spray etc. and doesn't leave a splattered insect stuck to the window or wall.

Un-packed it and started to use it. After 4 seconds it stopped. Turned it on again and it worked for another 4 seconds before cutting out. Repeated this twice more with the same results. Put it on charge just in case the battery needed topping up, and as the hand held part came into contact with the base unit there was a short circuit "crack". Now totally useless. First time that any B&D item has ever let me down,

Had this for about a year now and it’s still working well. We’ve had various hand-held cleaners over the years and they’ve all eventually lost their suction power. The Black and Decker is really easy to take apart and clean. It does get clogged up easily, as most vacuums do, and we have dogs and cats, so there’s lots of hair about. Opening the main compartment to empty it is very easy, and removing the filter from that is easy, too. This will get clogged with dust, but’s it’s easy to clean. Suction power is very good - as good as an Dyson we’ve had in the past. A year in and it hasn’t lost any of that suction power yet. Would recommend.

Nice vacuum with good suction. It cleans out easily and stores very well with its foldable nozzle. It gives up after about 10 minutes of use which isn't too bad for a compact device like this. The only niggle with this is that it's *very* noisy. Not an issue for us, but if you're planning to use this whilst someone in the house is still sleeping then think again. This pretty much makes the same amount of noise as a plug-in vacuum.

I've read the Amazon reviews and watched the you tube reviews. I aware of its good points and down falls. But for £50 it was a bargain for me. And for now great for little kids food drops and car cleaning

I've now owned this for a 1 year, purchased at the 2016 Black Friday. Still works and is still great for picking up bits and bobs. But after of every day use I can here the battery is going, after a minute the mother speed drop, audible and noticeable. But still great value.
