Three Greyhounds -- five grand babies -- many, many adults -- all this adds up to our carpets taking a daily beating. We have three different types of carpet in our downstairs. Our back door is a slider that comes in right off of our back yard and directly into our family room. You can only imagine what we people drag in from our back yard. But the Greyhounds do us three better with their big old doggy paws. In all types of weather, these three manage to find leaves, dirt, grass, small rocks, bird feathers, wet paws, muddy paws, and drag them into our family room. I sweep daily in the family room, kitchen, and living room to keep the place from looking like a dog kennel!!!!.
We use our Hoover Spin Scrub carpet cleaner with this BISSELL DEEP CLEANING product. An added bonus is the fresh and spring-like smell of FEBREZE. Not only do our carpets look almost brand-new and perfect, they smell fantastic. The entire house smells fresh and clean. Spots, spills, stains are removed quickly and instantly with this product. We even had an older stain that we just couldn't seem to remove and BAM -- it is now gone.
Our family and our Greyhounds have suddenly met their match with this product. Another extra is this will protect our carpets from future stains with the built-in Scotchgard Protector.
If you have any type of pets this product is a miracle worker. Our carpets look good, smell good, the carpets dry quickly and are ready to get another work out from this family of ours.
Bissell's also smells much better. The Bissell detergent gives the entire room a nice clean smell, while the Hoover's scent is not as obvious (need to get closer to the carpet to notice) and has more of a 'I just cleaned my carpet' smell. Add the fact that I'm Scotchgarding against future stains, I'll still with Bissell in the future.
Price-wise, they're about the same. A bottle of Bissell detergent is over $20 for 32 oz, versus about $17 for Hoover, but Bissell is 2x concentrated. I need 5oz. per gallon of water for my Hoover detergent compared to 2-1/2 oz. per gallon for the Bissell detergent. At current prices, it costs me $1.72 per gallon mixed for the Bissell detergent compared to $1.65. Seven cents is a small price to pay for me to get something I feel is a superior product.
However, I'm not convinced that the price of the Bissell Professional Deep Cleaning is worth $23 price even with Fabreze and Scotchguard. Bisell sells a similar product that is marketed for smaller spot cleaners (BISSELL Spot & Stain with Febreze Freshness Spring & Renewal Formula) that is also 32 ounces, but is half the price. Considering the spot cleaners do the exact same job as the larger uprights, I'm really puzzeled why the cleaning solution would be half as expensive... In addition, Hoover's similarly high end, "professional" cleaner (Hoover Platinum Collection Professional Strength Carpet & Upholstery Detergent 50 oz) gives you 18 more ounces of cleaner at the same $23 price. I've personnally never paid more than $10-$12 for a 32 ounce bottle of cleaner.
So I think the question is "does this product give you superior cleaning and stain prevention to be worth the added price?" Considering I've been a pet owner for 17 years (and our first dog "LOVED" to pee, poop, and throw up all over the floor) and a parent for 13 years with all the "fun" stains that that brings, my experience is that NONE of the cleaners do a better job than any others. In fact, if you put too much shampoo in the cleaner, it just attracts MORE dirt - unless you thoroughly and very carefully rinse the shampoo out of your carpet. So I try to use no more than the minimum recommended amount. For the Bissell Professional Deep Cleaner, the Scotchguard and Fabreze are welcome additions, but I'm not convinced its that much value added to justify the price.
My only complaint with this product is the cost. This 32 ounce bottle will set you back about $22 and will give you only about 12 uses per bottle. It seems a little costly considering you can buy other bottles of Bissell cleaning solution that will give you twice as much cleaning solution for less money. So you are paying a lot for the Febreze freshness.
If you are dealing with dirty carpets and odors, this product should work well for you. But if dirty carpets are the main problem and not odors, you can find other cleaning solution for a lot less money that will work well, too.
This has a nice fresh smell to it, and it is less foamy than some of the others so it doesn't trick my cleaner into thinking it's full from the bubbles. When I dumped out the used water - it was always full of filth, so I know it was actually doing some cleaning. So we ended up with a fresher smell, and cleaner carpets - but this didn't even lighten any of the stains. Even the pretreated stains were still there in all of their glory after using this. So if you are looking for something to remove dirt, and give your carpet a light scented smell this is an excellent choice. If you are looking for a pet-stain remover - this is not what you are looking for.
