A lot of traction cleats are described as ‘professional’ and when you get them home or they are delivered, they are not. Most of the one’s I’ve come across in outdoors shops in the city are poorly constructed with replaceable pins that most of the time fall out after your first trek during heavy snows or icy conditions. Most aren’t worth the money and are in the bin much quicker than you’d expect them to be, even with their ‘spare’ metal pins included. Been there, done that years ago.
This pair of 12 teeth anti-slip traction cleats is professional in quality. They are superbly constructed from tough and thick stainless steel and offer rubber that they state is 5mm thicker than the average on traction cleats. I’d agree with them happily, having purchased those in the past and been sorely disappointed in the strength of the rubber once you start to stretch it over chunky mountaineering boots or hiking boots etc. As you have to have these on very securely, the rubber needs to be both tough and durable yet with enough stretch to allow you to fit what is ultimately a tight fitting rubber piece over your boots.
It was tough getting these onto my Skarpa mountaineering boots, and that’s just how it should be. I got sore fingers struggling initially getting them on. I wear a size 7 in my mountaineering boots so I have plenty of room for thick, warming socks (I’m a UK size 6 in normal boots) but these fit with plenty of room to spare as they will fit boots or shoes from sizes 35-44 EU sizes.Read more ›
These do seem like excellent quality traction cleats. I have been sent a size 'large', and I'm a female with size 5 feet. I found it easy to stretch the rubber and fit it over one of my regular shoes. The grips on the bottom (there are 12 in total) sit under the shoe, and I think I'm at the very edge of correct fit for this size, as one of the metal sections is dangling ever so slightly away from the shoe. Adjusting the front and back made this less of a problem, anyway.
I can't test this yet in snow as my part of the country hasn't had any yet (will update when it does!), but it does feel that the fit is good enough to hold my feet stable on ice/snow when the weather comes.
They are easy enough to remove too, with an extra handle of rubber on the heel to pull off from, they are off in a second.
I will be keeping these either by the front door or in the car. I like the fact they come in a small black bag (with handle) as well, great for storing and avoiding any snags.
Another reviewer says they job with these on their footwear. I'm a jogger too, but personally can't say I'd be happy trying to run with these on, or in those conditions. Each to their own though.
Not too heavy to wear, easy to store and fit to a shoe. Can't wait to try these out!
With thanks to the manufacturer for the sample product, sent for review purposes.
I initially noticed that they were meant for shoes up to size 9.5 UK. I am size 11 but found they fitted ok with the ankle spikes more towards the middle of the shoe than the back. However I found no problem with this.
Initially found my feet/calves aching after wearing them. But after a few days wear noticed no problems.
Try not to wear them on polished tiles floors as they tend to slip on these kinds of surfaces.
Otherwise the best grips yet I have had!
