Product Description

BG 244 (BG244) diesel fuel system cleaner. Designed for all types of diesel engine, BG244 cleans the fuel system including the diesel fuel injectors. It also helps to remove carbon deposits from combustion areas thus restoring performance. One can (325mL) of BG 244 treats up to 60 litres of diesel. Please note that a disposable funnel is supplied but it is not suitable for all vehicles. Alternatively, use another high quality cleaner such as AR6400-D as this is easier to pour into the tank.

Having read the reviews before I bought this it was obvious that some people loved it and some not but at a fraction of the quoted repair costs I took a chance and for me it was the best £25 I have spent.

My diesel A3 was stuttering under acceleration and the first local garage changed the wiring loom to the injectors with no improvement (£200 paid). the next garage advertising as Audi specialists plugged in a laptop, spent literally about 60 seconds and said they could not find a fault and that would be £50 please. I felt this excessive and they waived the bill.

The next stop was the main Audi dealer who wanted £180 per hour for fault diagnosis and if it was the injectors the cost was £900 for one injector or £3,000 for all 4. I went away.

Then I heard of this stuff. Just stuck it in the tank, filled up with diesel and within a few hundred miles the engine is running with no problems. that was some months ago and the I am still very happy.

I have had problems with my diesel Lexus, very sluggish to pull away, and spent a fortune having various bits and pieces serviced to improve performance. I added a can of Bg244 to a tank full of fuel and have been most impressed with the results. Performance has increased tremendously, fuel consumption has improved markedly and the car runs better. I have no hesitation in recommending this product to all diesel car owners.

I cast around on the Internet a lot before buying this product. The Forte product seems good, but most people said they got good results with this one (and it's more expensive - more effective chemicals cost more). Importantly, BG244 is the diesel version, as often it's not clear which is for what. I've used it on an engine that has done 50,000 miles. I have to say the engine and its performance quickly became a lot smoother.

I still have some of the mix in my tank now, so really I won't see the true result until I fill up with plain fuel next tankful. One factor to take into account is that BG244 has a cetane enhancer - so a performance boost while it's in the tank is not a fair measure of effectiveness. The Forte product doesn't have a cetane enhancer, and so shouldn't give a temporary misleading impression. I haven't tried the Forte, and my main objective is to have the best result I can get for my engine - so maybe BG244 is just the ticket.

POSTSCRIPT: I'm using my first tankful of plain fuel, and the car's performance is definitely better in my opinion. It's not quite as smooth as with the additive in the tank, but it's not lumpy and jerky as it was before the treatment.

P.P.S. I used BG244 diesel fuel system treatment for a few years. The first use of this really helped my engine (in a high mileage second-hand car), but subsequent treatments gave less dramatic results, probably because they had less to do. Then I heard of PEA. I read somewhere that BG244 does have PEA in it (amount unknown), but I tried Archoil AR6400D, which is advertised as having PEA in it, and the results seem much better. Archoil is a bit cheaper, and it too has cetane enhancer.

I personally found that Redex didn't make any difference and someone recommended me to try this. I never heard of it before and it looks like an energy drink or household cleaner on the outside but WOW did it deliver. Maybe it is the equivalent of an energy drink for a car!

Note that the BG244 is for DIESEL and the BG44 is for PETROL.

Before the cleaner, I was noticing some minor issues with my car. The idle was fairly uneven, cold starts were lumpy and often required to try to start the car twice to get it to run smooth; and it was a little flat power wise below 2000 rpm.

The trick here is, to get a funnel and place it into the fuel tank. This makes it easy to pour in and none of it is wasted! You only need half of this can at a time, and I'd recommend putting it in BEFORE you put in 60 litres (or completely fill) your tank of diesel. This way, it seems to mix better. ONE can should be enough annually even if you do a lot of miles or very few miles pottering around the town/city centre.

Well, a 30 mile drive with this in, seemed to force the car to do a DPF regeneration which it hadn't done prior. It only takes a few minutes to do and can be performed successfully on main roads where you can cruise along at a decent speed, I recommend trying to keep the revs to around 2000 and above whilst this is happening.

Afterwards though I stopped the car and turned off the engine there was an almighty burning smell which smelt like a mix of diesel and this stuff. Don't be surprised if your car also does the same, I think it just goes to show it was ALREADY working it's magic!

My jeep grand cherekee 3.0 CRD (50,000 miles on the clock) was getting less than 22 mpg on the open road, even less on my normal drive to work. I had it in to the dealership in Aberdeen 4 times to look at this issue and was told everything was fine. Having looked at the cost of retuning (~£300) I decided I needed a cheaper option. I looked at many reviews on different products but eventually I chose BG244 (Apparently some of the better dealerships add this at service time and only needs to be done once every 10,000 miles). Poured a tin into my fuel tank and filled up with diesel. Within a 100 miles I noticed the engine sounded smoother. After 200 miles the smoke from the exhaust on initial startup reduced dramatically. I let the tank go empty (to ensure it wasn't a temporary improvement while the additive was in the system) and refilled. Now get 27.9mpg on my drive to work. An improvement of ~6mpg or 27%. As you can imagine I am delighted. For an outlay of £22 I will save somewhere in the region of £900 a year. Fantastic product.

Tip, it's much easier to pour the tin into a diesel can filled with diesel than to try and pour the tin directly into the car.
