Linksys AC1900 Dual-Band Smart Wi-Fi Router (EA6900)
Up to 4.3x Faster than Conventional Wireless
Get better performance and enjoy speeds up to 4.3x faster than wireless-N with the Linksys AC1900 Dual-Band Smart Wi-Fi router. Using wireless-AC technology, this router offers enhanced data streaming speeds of up to AC1900 Mbps (N600 + AC1300), making it suitable for large households, serious gamers and HD video enthusiasts.
The router's gigabit Wi-Fi speeds allow for quick downloads of large files. As you add Wi-Fi-enabled devices, wireless-AC makes it possible for you to catch up on your favourite show on Netflix while family members simultaneously stream HD movies on another device, play online games or browse the web without waiting for content to buffer.
The AC1900 also boasts three adjustable antennas that help distribute the Wi-Fi signal and extend its range throughout your home. The AC1900 includes USB 2.0 and USB 3.0 ports, letting you easily share devices like external hard drives and printers across your network. It also has four gigabit ports to connect wired devices at speeds up to 10x faster than Ethernet.
Beamforming Creates Stronger Faster Connections
The Linksys AC1900 Smart Wi-Fi router features beamforming, a technology that optimises the wireless signal strength between your connected devices and router. Beamforming enables the router to identify and connect directly with other devices rather than simply sending out wireless signals in a general direction. This results in faster network speeds, better wireless range, and reduced interference from other devices. It also helps extend the battery life of connected devices and reduce their power consumption because data is transferred more quickly.
Manage your Home Network Remotely with Linksys Smart Wi-Fi
With Linksys Smart Wi-Fi you can access and control your home network from wherever you are using your smartphone, tablet or computer. For example, you can set parental controls to restrict Internet access during certain times of the day and create unique, secure Wi-Fi passwords for your guests. You can also monitor activity on your home network, add new devices and check upload and download speeds.
In addition, Linksys Smart Wi-Fi allows you to prioritise, which devices on your network receive the most bandwidth to reduce lag times and buffering when you're streaming HD media or gaming.
Upgrade your Devices to Enjoy the Full Benefits of Wireless-AC
Using Linksys's family of wireless-AC peripherals you can take full advantage of the improved speed and stability of wireless-AC. The Linksys Universal Media Connector (WUMC710) lets you connect wired devices such as game consoles and smart TVs to your Wi-Fi network and stream HD or even 3D HD video content seamlessly. The connector operates on the 5 GHz band, resulting in less interference and a clearer signal. Additionally, the Linksys Dual Band AC1200 Wireless 3.0 Adapter (WUSB6300) enables you to upgrade your laptop or desktop computer to fully benefit from the faster speeds of wireless-AC technology to stream high-definition video or enjoy high-speed gaming.

Bearing in mind that manufacturer's performance claims are so misleading as to be almost fraudulent, and commercial reviews do liitle to correct them, I was rather wary when I came across a review which placed the EA6900 on a par with the then class leader in 1900ac routers. It came second in nine out of eleven tests and was therefore declared inferior. In the small print it was subsequently revealed that the difference was only a few per cent and that it won the other two tests ' hands down'. These tests involved distances of fifteen feet and more and two brick walls. My scenario exactly.
The unit itself is reassuring solid with an immediate impression of quality. My EA4500 has run continuously for three years now without a glitch, so I had no qualms on that score. My main concern was how intrusive the Smart Wifi would be.
Setup was simple but does require a wired connection initially, which seemed a bit odd for these days. There was an option to set it up manually, which confused me slightly as it still seemed to be going down the Smart Wifi route. A couple of resets later and I found that if you persevere, you come to the setup pages. These are a tad illogical in their layout, in my opinion, but most things that you need are there.
So far so good. Disconnect the wire and carry on the setup wirelessly from a laptop. No problems. Check coverage around the house. Best that I have seen out of all the routers that I have tried.Read more ›
I was far worse than the BT Home hub 3 it was replacing. It was also a real pain to set up as it refused to talk with my PC with a wired connection (It is only supplied with a wireless SSID and password!). I even tried using it as a wireless access terminal using a pair of TP-LINK AV500 modules to take the network over the mains wiring into the conservatory and using the EA6900 to provide wi-fi. It worked for a few minutes then would no longer link with the Home Hub. A real disappointment that failed to deliver. Sent it back to Amazon (Luckily Amazons pick up service is excellent!) and got a TP-LINK WP4220 which gives a local wi-fi access point and interfaces over the mains wiring so is not troubled by walls. This set up and linked with my existing AV500 powerline modules - 10 minutes to set up. Much cheaper and better solution. Not as fast but at least it works!
My reason for buying this was because I have a BT Home Hub 3 and it keeps dropping connections and the signal wasn't quite what I needed at the other end of my house - and I have a very long house so I wanted something with extra oomph. Sadly the Linksys EA6900 fell seriously short of expectations and was returned.
1) USB 3.0 is a dream. I detected no interference with the signal and it was transferring large video files across the wired LAN at around 40MBps (Seagate 2TB external HDD). I really enjoyed the 3.0 USB and will definitely get another router with 3.0. This is especially useful if you have a digital SLR and you have large photo files that you want stored on the network. It was a dream and huge improvement for me.
2) Having 4 built-in Gigabit ethernet ports was also great. I work from home and have two main work computers, both of which I hard-wired into the router. The extra gigabit ports were terrific and I was definitely getting bang for buck in that regard (although there are lots of other far cheaper routers that offer exactly the same thing)
3) The data speeds over the 2.4 and 5GHz wifi signals was far far faster than my BT router (12MBps vs 3MBps!!) BUT - and here is the catch - the range was awful. And I do mean awful! At 10 metres from the router, BT was knocking the socks off Linksys.
RANGE RANGE RANGE. Awful! I was expecting a lot more.
I was using the INNSIDER software to monitor the signal strength and was appalled to see that my very old BT Home Hub 3 knocked the socks off my brand new Linksys router, starting from only a few metres away. Once I had gone into the next room (brick wall between the two rooms) the Linksys had almost disappeared!Read more ›
