Linksys AC1900 Dual-Band Smart Wi-Fi Router (EA6900)
Up to 4.3x Faster than Conventional Wireless
Get better performance and enjoy speeds up to 4.3x faster than wireless-N with the Linksys AC1900 Dual-Band Smart Wi-Fi router. Using wireless-AC technology, this router offers enhanced data streaming speeds of up to AC1900 Mbps (N600 + AC1300), making it suitable for large households, serious gamers and HD video enthusiasts.
The router's gigabit Wi-Fi speeds allow for quick downloads of large files. As you add Wi-Fi-enabled devices, wireless-AC makes it possible for you to catch up on your favourite show on Netflix while family members simultaneously stream HD movies on another device, play online games or browse the web without waiting for content to buffer.
The AC1900 also boasts three adjustable antennas that help distribute the Wi-Fi signal and extend its range throughout your home. The AC1900 includes USB 2.0 and USB 3.0 ports, letting you easily share devices like external hard drives and printers across your network. It also has four gigabit ports to connect wired devices at speeds up to 10x faster than Ethernet.
Beamforming Creates Stronger Faster Connections
The Linksys AC1900 Smart Wi-Fi router features beamforming, a technology that optimises the wireless signal strength between your connected devices and router. Beamforming enables the router to identify and connect directly with other devices rather than simply sending out wireless signals in a general direction. This results in faster network speeds, better wireless range, and reduced interference from other devices. It also helps extend the battery life of connected devices and reduce their power consumption because data is transferred more quickly.
Manage your Home Network Remotely with Linksys Smart Wi-Fi
With Linksys Smart Wi-Fi you can access and control your home network from wherever you are using your smartphone, tablet or computer. For example, you can set parental controls to restrict Internet access during certain times of the day and create unique, secure Wi-Fi passwords for your guests. You can also monitor activity on your home network, add new devices and check upload and download speeds.
In addition, Linksys Smart Wi-Fi allows you to prioritise, which devices on your network receive the most bandwidth to reduce lag times and buffering when you're streaming HD media or gaming.
Upgrade your Devices to Enjoy the Full Benefits of Wireless-AC
Using Linksys's family of wireless-AC peripherals you can take full advantage of the improved speed and stability of wireless-AC. The Linksys Universal Media Connector (WUMC710) lets you connect wired devices such as game consoles and smart TVs to your Wi-Fi network and stream HD or even 3D HD video content seamlessly. The connector operates on the 5 GHz band, resulting in less interference and a clearer signal. Additionally, the Linksys Dual Band AC1200 Wireless 3.0 Adapter (WUSB6300) enables you to upgrade your laptop or desktop computer to fully benefit from the faster speeds of wireless-AC technology to stream high-definition video or enjoy high-speed gaming.

Bearing in mind that manufacturer's performance claims are so misleading as to be almost fraudulent, and commercial reviews do liitle to correct them, I was rather wary when I came across a review which placed the EA6900 on a par with the then class leader in 1900ac routers. It came second in nine out of eleven tests and was therefore declared inferior. In the small print it was subsequently revealed that the difference was only a few per cent and that it won the other two tests ' hands down'. These tests involved distances of fifteen feet and more and two brick walls. My scenario exactly.
The unit itself is reassuring solid with an immediate impression of quality. My EA4500 has run continuously for three years now without a glitch, so I had no qualms on that score. My main concern was how intrusive the Smart Wifi would be.
Setup was simple but does require a wired connection initially, which seemed a bit odd for these days. There was an option to set it up manually, which confused me slightly as it still seemed to be going down the Smart Wifi route. A couple of resets later and I found that if you persevere, you come to the setup pages. These are a tad illogical in their layout, in my opinion, but most things that you need are there.
So far so good. Disconnect the wire and carry on the setup wirelessly from a laptop. No problems. Check coverage around the house. Best that I have seen out of all the routers that I have tried.
Next morning I tried to make an adjustment from my tablet with the result 'Mobile browsers not supported. Use the Linksys app' which then requires you to sign up to an online account to administer your router. Just like keeping your house keys in a key safe outside the front door and then having to phone someone to open it every time you want to get in.
All this and the guest account is secured(?) with a plain text password.
No thank you. It has gone back.
it is good for 'routing' especially when you have Airplay products in the setup which require the Bonjour service.Set it up properly and it will work a dream BUT the wi-fi range is appalling!
You get much better signal strength from most of the devices you get for free from your internet providers.
I don't know why they bother putting 3 wireless antennas on it.
To get a good network setup you can have your main modem/router that comes from BT/VIRGIN/Talktalk etc. in modem mode, use the Linksys as a subnet, turn the wi-fi off on the Linksys and get some decent wireless access points trough out the house.
The packaging was great it comes with minimal packaging also an ethernet cable with instructions as well. I didn't really use instructions as it was so easy to figure out how to install everything. Furthermore one thing that did find was that this was a smart router and it can be controlled with my iPhone. I felt this was a huge advantage as I could connect and reconfigure my wireless Internet anywhere around the house and even outside of the house.
Overall the coverage is a lot better compared to my previous router and it does cover the house efficiently. I feel that the price and for what it does this writer is very good and I would highly recommend. It's very easy to install and use a very good coverage in terms of the wireless Internet in your house.
I'm fairly tech savvy but still networking solutions do fill me with a bit of dread. I initially did a Google search for "Best wifi routers" and this router came up a few times. Found a 10/10 review on a big tech blog. It sounded perfect. Review average on Amazon is 3.5/5. i took a gamble and it paid off. This router has given me a perfect network throughout the house. it's like night and day. And I'm now kicking myself I didnt do it sooner.
Simply plugged this into my Virgin Super Hub 2, did a few configurations on the really simple setup wizard and boom. Suddenly my house is filled with glorious fast and strong wifi. I did a speed test My Mac book pro and got a 10 ms ping, over 100Mbps download and a reasonable 6Mbps upload (but my upload speed is limited with Virgin anyway). The speed test on my Moto G 3rd gen was 12 ms ping, 50Mbps down and 6Mbps up. Amazing.
I've yet to reconnected my WD My Cloud and Synology NAS drives and test the router out with my PS4 online, but so far this router has been incredible - Easy to set up, easy to configure and excellent wifi signal and speed. It's perfect for my house and would recommend it highly. (My house is an Edwardian terrace so signal strength might be different in concrete and larger houses, but for me, this purchase has made my year!
You owe it to yourself to upgrade your ISP's bog standard modem/router to this!
