Format: Audio CD
A masterblend of thoughtful lyrics, intuitive music and 'grab and squeeze' you soul. Feelgood factor abounds with the spirited 'You Got It' and 'Got The Love' as guitars and horns vie for the foreground with gutsy tight bass and drum backbeats. The classic 'Pick Up The Pieces' never fails to get me moving as superb sax work pulls at the soul. Everyone's been where 'Person To Person' takes you; whilst the brilliant cover of the Isley Brothers' 'Work To Do' really hammers home the bigger soul sound the band can achieve. 'Nothing You Can Do' and 'Keepin It To Myself' stand neatly astride the soulful 'Just Wanna Love You Tonight', testing and teasing the emotions of the listener whilst 'I Just Can't Give You Up' and 'Theres Always Someone Waiting' skillfully ease you to the conclusion of a masterful album. The band's later offering 'Shine' is arguably the only other contender as their finest album throughout. The contribution of the Brecker Brothers [of East River fame] and the intuitive understanding of all members of the band to provide such classic soul make this a 'must have' album. After Scotch Whisky this band is the best thing to come out of Scotland, and like the spirit they have a gutsy smoothness that to me is a sheer pleasure!
