this is rotten, written for robots not people. It's for techies, jobsworths and people who already know avid. It has some pretty hostile attitudes towards directors and ordinary mortals. It's no good for beginners and it CERTAINLY isn't a workshop tutorial as it advertises. It's hard to believe the reviews on amazon.
Half the book is devoted to explaining every button and setting - what it doesn't tell you is how to actually USE avid, which is not as user-friendly as FCP and doesn't use standard computer operating language - cut and paste, drag and drop etc.
Avoid unless you're already au fait.

This book is actually really useful. Lots of edit books tell you stuff, but its not always helpful. Up to now Ive read and used the section on post production sound...actually explains things in an easy to understand way that can then be put to practical use....and Ive read the section on colour correction. Again practical and clearly explained. If the rest of the book is as good its a good buy and I'd recommend this book for a begginner or intermediate Avid user
