I had decided to order the Avid Pro Tools 11 Software for 548 pounds from EXAMDOTS UK after having tested a trial version. The item was purchased along with an iLok USB stick much needed for software activation.
A few days later, I received the iLok key but no trace of the software.
I then decided to contact EXAMDOTS UK who declared that the item has already been delivered and signed for.
I was quite surprised since I have been home all day waiting for that delivery.
I am lucky enough to be able to work from home whenever it is necessary.
I contacted EXAMDOTS UK again, arguing that the item was never delivered to my door.
It is important to mention at this point that I live alone and there is no concierge in the residence.
EXAMDOTS UK sent me a proof of delivery.
I cannot describe my anger when I discovered that the item was signed for by a total stranger.
I raised my point to EXAMDOTS UK, they told me that I have to turn to Royal Mail who was in charge of the delivery.
I did not purchase my item from Royal Mail, my transaction was with EXAMDOTS UK and they decided to put their trust into Royal Mail!
I DO NOT SEE WHY I HAVE TO SUFFER THE CONSEQUENCES OF THEIR BAD CHOICES!!!
Nether the less, I contacted Royal Mail, they « kindly » let me know that it was the duty of the sender to raise a complaint if the item was missing (obviously).
So back to square one, I recontacted EXAMDOTS UK, so they could raise the complaint.
Time passes by and, after 3 weeks of sending emails which were only answered days after (that shows how much they care about their complaining customers), I finally received an email from a manager of EXAMDOTS UK trying to convince me that they raise « my case » and now I have to wait for the results of Royal Mail’s investigations.
First of all it is not my case, I never contracted the services of Royal Mail, EXAMDOTS UK did.
With the experience I have with Royal Mail, I would never have trusted they with the delivery of an item worth over 500 pounds, especially since there was no tracking number attached to the item!
And even if Royal Mail admits the fault, which they do not, the compensation would go to EXAMDOTS UK not to me…
It seems to me, that they just refuse to take responsibility for misplacing they trust in their carrier and they are just hoping that I will give up with time, and by pointing to me how « complex » the regulations are.
THIS IS COMPLETELY UNACCEPTABLE!!
I had the same issue once with Fedex, the next day they went back to residence and recovered the miss delivered item. Royal Mail pretends to investigate but nobody ever contacted me or tried to confront the person who supposedly signed for the delivery. They are just accusing me of lying (without saying it). Why on earth would I make a false claim after buying a software I could easily download from the internet?
EXAMDOTS UK has got their (my) money, so they do not care anymore!
Royal Mail has got a paper signed by a total stranger, so they think they are covered and they do not care anymore!
And now I am left with 548 pounds less and no item to make up for it.
I am not even talking about the projects I have to put on hold because of this surreal situation…
I WILL NEVER BUY ANYTHING FROM EXAMDOTS UK AGAIN!!!

For one, the price. It almost seemed like a big gamble spending $500+ on my first real DAW. And the need for big money doesn't seem to stop there. If you're going to be doing lots of direct inputs with guitars and such, instead of miking an amp, then you're going to want to find some plugins. There doesn't seem to be a lot of plugin options out there in AAX format (which I believe is what Pro Tools accepts.) But the ones that I did find are in the hundreds of dollars. I haven't bought any plugins, since I'm miking amps.
Also, prepare to invest plenty of time watching tutorials and videos if this is a beginner experience for you. I used Lynda.com for tutorials since they were all in one place and made well. But to watch videos there it costs $25 for the membership.
Another mild drawback is the need to plug in an audio interface any time you run Pro Tools. If this is going to be installed on a stationary studio, then this isn't such an annoyance.
Some pros: my laptablet can run this. I'm currently running Pro Tools on an Acer Iconia W700 slate. It has a gen 3 i5, 4 gigs of ram and running Windows 8. I haven't run into any trouble with my computer running the program.
Installation for Windows was a breeze. Just follow the instructions that come in the booklet. It's a lengthy install but nothing confusing or difficult.
Overall, I would recommend this to anyone with the money to support it and the willpower to learn to use it.
Pro Tools is by far the leading tool in Audio Engineering. Once it's all setup, it's extremely powerful and you can do just about anything with it.
The one thing that I have always run it with is using the built in program called ReWire to run Pro Tools in conjunction with Reason by Propellerhead. Linked together they make the single most powerful composing, editing, and listening software available.
I would and do recommend Pro Tools to anyone, and if you are on the edge, go head, trust me, it will be worth it.
