Product Description

Amazon.co.uk Review

Never mind online gaming and 40-button controllers: if you really want to prove your hardcore gaming credentials you'll need a few 2-D shooters in your collection, and Metal Slug X is perhaps the best ever for the PSone.

A conversion of the third entry in the cult arcade series, this is a real rarity on these shores--indeed it's the first time ever a Metal Slug game has been released in the UK. The premise of this title, and indeed every Metal Slug game, is far from extraordinary: you control a cute little commando on a left to right scrolling mission to blow seven bells out of whoever gets in your way--usually some vaguely Nazi-esque bad guys--with a few diversions to take in Egyptian mummies and alien octopus people along the way.

What it loses in terms of originality Metal Slug X more than makes up for in imagination and execution. Despite being 2-D the graphics are fantastic, with some wonderful animation that imbues every backdrop, bad guy and power-up with tons of personality. Then there's the extremely cool means of transport you get to avail yourself of, including a machine-gun equipped camel, a weird jumping robot power suit and the title's eponymous super-cute tank.

There's really nothing to criticise in Metal Slug X save its relative brevity, so go ahead and risk that visit from the fashion police and you'll find out why three dimensions are not necessarily better than two. --David Jenkins

Manufacturer's Description

Metal Slug X brings critically acclaimed gameplay to PSone: six levels of intense old-school arcade shoot-'em-up action, humorous characters and a plethora of weapons of destruction including tanks, fighter planes and death-dealing camels to commandeer. The PSone version has a couple of new surprises. A unique feature is the new Combat School mode with completely new levels to rampage through. Plus, once you've have mastered the normal mode, you can unlock two new modes: Special Secret Mission and the Gallery. Better still, you can now team up with a mate for simultaneous two-player action.

Although this version may not be as good as the us/japan version, that doesnt mean its by any means a bad game. the action is fast packed, fun and its very easy to loose hours to this game. Definetly worth five stars. A fun little blaster id recommend to anyone.

Having played the entire game to its conclusion in the arcade, i have to reccomend this game. Although not easy at first, it can be mastered, which you will want to do, especially to beat your old scores on the high score chart. The first level gets stale after a while, as you will inevitably have to retry quite a few times before you get to the end. The bosses are truly enormous, filling half of the screen, and the comical weapons are great fun. The vehicles you can also commandeer really are the icing on a very sweet cake, although it isn't a cake intended for younger players, particularly considering the violent nature of the game and the Hitler-esque final boss character. For best results, please use an arcade stick, it will increase your enjoyment of this fine game exponentially.

This is sheer brilliance. The die-hard metal slug fans will luv this game as it isn't pay as you go. Also it has your classic weapons and some new ones. New vehicles. 1 minor let down is that it is not as good without a joystick. But overall is still worth 5 stars. I've got 2 words for ya. BUY IT!

This is a great little game. It may not be the greatest graphics ever made but it's a nice game to play.
These are a few of the annoying points I found in the game.
1.One hit wonder- you get hit once and you loose a life, also gameplay stops for the player to return from the dead. Perhaps an energy bar would have been better to prolong the game.
2.Unlimited continues- This at first glance might seem a luxury but once you complete the game on your first go oyu will see what i mean. There is no challenge.
Apart from these its great.
