Although very competitively priced, the item shipped to me had the following problems with its phono ground connector:

1) Although listed in the Amazon product description, the ground connector screw isn't mentioned in the instructions or labelled on the preamp case; it can only be identified by a process of elimination.

2) The ground connector screw isn't fitted with a washer, so most turntable 'spade-type' ground connectors won't attach; you have to provide your own washer.

3) Once you've got your ground connector attached, it doesn't work, resulting in excessive hum. Although the ground connector screw connects directly with the preamp's metal case, this case isn't connected electrically to the preamp circuit's ground, so it doesn't work. Touching the turntable ground lead on the outer shielding of any of the phono connectors defeats the hum immediately, so it looks like this is simply an advertised feature, which hasn't been implemented.

Quite a few turntables require a ground connector and this preamp is advertised as having one.

As far as I can see, the options are to return the unit, or void the warranty and fit your own ground connection - NOT RECOMMENDED UNLESS YOU KNOW EXACTLY WHAT YOU'RE DOING - obviously this course of action could result in harm to the preamp and/or the person attempting to modify it.

This is a shame, as with this one simple feature fixed the preamp would appear to be incredible value for money.

Connected this to my circa 1990 turntable and to a Technics SC-EH790 system, through the aux channel and it works a treat. The channel hums when a record isn't playing, but is fine when one is playing. Perhaps playing around with connecting the turntable ground lead somewhere will eliminate the hum.

The reason I gave this product 4 stars and not 5 is because the output is lower than I expected. If you are using a low wattage amplifier you might find that the music is quiet. I am fortunate to have a high power amplifier so this doesn't affect me too badly. The product is nice and lightweight and easy to connect with an earthwire, which is essential to stop "hum" (which is an unfortunate side effect with turntables in general). It is practical because it is capable of running on both a 9 volt battery or the transformer supplied and as I am using a rechargeable 9 volt battery it saves me using an extra 13 amp plug socket. I am pleased with the product.

Very inexpensive and I suppose you get what you pay for! Intolerable level of hum and distortion, even when earthing to the case so only suitable for the most basic of systems.. Returned for a refund.

For the price this a good piece of kit, I read other reviews before purchase and I have used a battery to power it rather than the power supply that was provided, I have had no issues with hum.
I am using this with Sony's sound forge studio with a good vinyl recording tool and I have been pleased so far with the results.

I bought this device to connect my turntable to a computer in order to digitise my LPs but it did not work. There was an enormous amount of hum making it unusable. The retailer was extremely helpful, they contacted their supplier who was very defensive and threw the blame onto my equipment. I cannot recommend this pre-amp to others.

Now I can get my record deck on the go again, no magnetic input on amp is no problem with this now, I had one forty years ago too, I am so chuffed they are still made. RIAA tweaked too, wow! Dig out them old Herbie Hancock and Jan Hammer discs again! Gentle Giant and Genesis too. Plus the response is governed at below 30 hz so no turntable rumble!!!!

You'd never buy the bits to make this at the price they sell for either!
