Mark Wallington's books never disappoint - my only criticism is that there aren't enough of them ... The latest offering took me back in time - the Morris with the sticky out indicators like ears, the trip through France to Spain back in the days when it was trailblazing stuff, the AA boxes and keys (they used to send whole packs of goodies too), the Failing of the Test, the snapped off key in the ignition, and so many other things that at times it was like some kind of spooky deja vu thing. Mark Wallington is right when he says that our generation lived through the Golden Age of motoring - back when cars were cars ...

A great trip down memory lane with a witty literary chauffeur. This book brought back wonderful memories of cars loved and lost. Recommended for anyone who enjoyed the ups and downs of car ownership from the back seat to the front

The benchmark with all Mark Wallington's books is 500 Mile Walkies which still, 20 odd years since first reading it makes me laugh out loud. This books comes pretty close though, producing appreciative chuckles rather than belly laughs. Wonderfully written, funny, nostalgic, particularly for those of us of a certain age though to be fair any age group would appreciate the humour.

What a refreshing surprise! The author has raised fundamental questions about life while exploring his personal adventure. I don't know why but Laurie Lee kept springing to mind. If you're of an age read this before you become grumpy and cynical.

Big fan of Mark Wallington with the Boogie series, this one is slightly different but still written in that great style he has which makes you feel like someone is having a conversation with you, rather than an author just describing something :-)

Clearly I'm swimming against the critical tide, here, but I just found this profoundly irritating. Worse than irritating, actually... it somehow seems like a dreadful sell-out to surrender your life story (and those of your family) to an AA-sponsored marketing gimmick. Anyway, anyway... authorial ethics and credibility aside, this still remains a wholly unconvincing read. Mark Wallington, if we are to go by the book, has enjoyed a life in which every human interaction has been marked by an exchange of cheeky quips and asides, a sort of Little England 'Truman Show' which some might find endearing and engaging - but left me unconvinced at best (the relentless, bland cheeriness of it all) and troubled at worst. I mean, really - who'd sell the story of their life to the AA..?! How much would they have to pay you..?

On top of which... he really knows nothing - I mean, NOTHING - about cars.

Found this funny, not side splitting but made me smile. I read some of it to my husband and he found it funny too, he used to work on a lot of the cars mentioned so could visualise them. Good time passer.
