Product description

From the Author

The story of a Black Londoner born before WW1
Through the years my Aunt Esther gave me first-hand accounts of what life was like for a Black Londoner throughout the 20th century. From Aunt Esther, I learned about the importance of oral history testament. In 1992 we published her life story and received the Raymond Williams Prize for Community Publishing. Caribbean Times described the book as "inspirational and enlightening". Aunt Esther's Story gave my Aunt a sense of achievement and pride towards the end of her life. Though she died in 1994, the book lives on, capturing the imaginations of those who read it and, I hope, broadening their understanding of British history.
