The most important feature of headphones if of course the sound they produce and in the case of these August EP635 headphones they sound very good indeed with plenty of bass and clear trebles. I usually use a pair of quite expensive Sennheiser headphones but I needed bluetooth headphones to connect to my Google Nexus tablet. I was pleasantly surprised to discover that the sound from these August EP635's is easily as good as the Sennheisers, if not better.

The headphones were nicely packaged and I could use them straight out of the box as the battery had a good level of charge in it. The speakers have nicely padded covers on them and there are a pair of spare covers in the box which is a nice touch. Each side of the headphones has a telescopic length adjuster in it so they can be adjusted to fit any size head. They charge up via a USB connector lead which plugs into any desktop computer or laptop.

I turned them on and after holding the power button down for a few seconds, my Nexus found them immediately and I was able to play music straight-away. There is a forward and back rocker switch on the right hand side of the phones and this let me move my player forward to the next track or back to the start of the current track - a very useful feature. As with many bluetooth audio devices the volume is controlled by the phone or tablet which is fine by me - a volume switch on the headphones would only over-complicate things.

I have been very pleased with these headphones and would recommend them to anybody who wants to listen to words or music from a blue-tooth enabled device.

I received this free to test and review.
Out of the box I was impressed with the styling at first I thought the charging lead was missing but this was hidden under a false lining in the box together with spare foam earpiece covers. The controls are easily accessible. The headsets adjust to fit by expanding the band and were comfortable to wear with soft padded leather earpieces, perhaps these could have been slightly bigger but perfectly OK.

At this point I was going to say that it did not work and give it a 1 star review, however after an email to the supplier I found I had been operating it incorrectly. When I pressed the on button the blue light flashed and I assumed that it was ready for pairing WRONG you need to hold the on button for about 8 second when the blue light flashes VERY QUICKLY and it is ready for pairing.

Once I got that right it paired with all the phones I tested it with as well as a generic Chinese Android tablet and an iPad. So no trouble there.

I thought I would try it on my laptop (an HP Envy running Windows 8) for Skype etc and this did not work, this is not the fault of the headset Microsoft have not fully implemented the Bluetooth profiles, some manufacturers have added their own drivers but many have not.
Fortunately I had a "Plantronics" Bluetooth dongle in my box of bits and this worked well and linked the headset to the laptop with no trouble it then worked with Skype and Echolink. If you need to buy a dongle make sure it has the Headset Profile (HSP) with the Advanced Audio Distribution Profile (A2DP). I asked some contacts over Echolink what they thought of the quality and they thought it was good and had not noticed any change from my usual (and expensive) microphone.

In reviewing this product I'm bearing in mind that I believe (trust) that I've had a faulty unit, and so I'll outline those issues separately from general review.

The packaging for this item is extremely off-putting. Low budget, dull, minimal effort. That said, the contents do somewhat mitigate for the presentation. The EP635's appear to be well made and strong. The headband extensions click solidly and don't feel like they'll loosen any time soon. The headband seems to be well-made, and has a small amount of padding in the top of the inside arch. The earpads are small enough to be relatively discreet, and benefit from having been clad in leather-style material which is softer and more comfortable than the usual foam pads (of which there are an included 'spare' pair in the box).

Unfortunately the earpads are not articulated, which might not be an issue to users with a smaller head than mine, but I've got a larger dome and the combination of a tight headband and fixed position earpads made wearing these about as comfortable as cramming a paper clip on my head. The good news is that for those with a smaller head, the EP635's have a nice snug fit which makes them very credible for use on the treadmill or out for a walk.

Range and battery life were both very respectable for me, but your mileage may vary.

Sound quality was a mixed bag. The onboard microphone struggles with background noise when used for Skype, but otherwise speaking up gives a reasonable experience as a hands-free kit for the office. They're surprisingly bassy and carry depth well, particularly noticeable watching movies or trailers on the PC.
