Indoor aerials have for as long as I can remember been very hit and miss. Hopefully somewhere on Amazon there's an audio/visual electrical expert out there that can put us all straight?

In my laymans experience I've had a few over the years. Some expensive all singing and dancing, some cheap as chips and they all seem to be the same.

So when I was kindly sent this aerial by the manufacturer to test and review I thought I'd give it a go, as it could be 'The one'

It certainly looks the business and is very well presented. In the box you will find -

- The aerial unit
- Indoor stand
- A 3 metre aerial cable that connects the unit to your tv
- The USB powered frequency booster/cable
- Outdoor mounting kit
- The instruction booklet

So, it's pretty easy to set up and takes 5 minutes. A green power on light will come on once you've plugged the USB booster/aerial in (most tellys have a USB port nowadays) and switched your tv on.

In use in my bedroom -

I set it up and switched on. I then tuned my freeview/digital tv in using the auto tune in the set up menu. These are the channels I picked up in Liverpool. . .

Channels I picked up were -

ITV
CH4
CH5
ITV2
ITV3
CH4+1
More4
Film4
QVC
Drama
Bid
Dave ja vu
G.O.L.

Got this to replace an ugly old wire portable aerial. The old one works perfectly but just looks unsightly. This one looks much neater and would have thought would perform just as well as the old aerial, especially with the amplifier. Well all I can say is it looks nice, other than that its totally useless as an aerial. I get nothing unless I plug in the amplifier, however this gives me a picture that goes blocky every now and then. I found things improved slightly if I lay the thing down flat but not good enough for comfortable viewing!
So, its back to the old 'non-amplified' wire aerial - may not look nice but it works!!!

Despite being in a weak signal area this aerial has allowed me to watch the August 7 inch digital TV set indoors. We don't have a roof aerial and the cost of this handy unit is very llittle for the real improvement in level of signal.
This will not work for everyone as digital TV requires a certain amount of signal before it decodes to produce the picture. The analogue TV used to be able to provide a picture even if it looked like it was snowing when the levels were poor.
Taking the power supply from a USB socket is very handy as the August TV can power the aerial. Well worth the money.

I have an August portable TV which came with a very simple stick aerial which gives reasonable reception, but misses some channels whilst some are only available intermittently. I thought that being from August, this would be perfectly matched to my TV and provide improved reception to pick up the missing channels.

I'm perplexed as to how any aerial could perform worse that the simple stick aerial, which is barely 4 inches tall, however this managed to perform much worse. In fact I found it totally impossible to find even a single channel with this aerial connected to the TV. I also tried using the amplifier provided as part of this aerial, with the simple stick aerial and discovered that this managed to reduce, rather than improve reception.

All in all a very disappointing purchase. Happily the suppliers 'George and Freddie' were very quick to supply a refund.

We got this for a bedroom TV. Already had something similar to 'SLx 27790RG' / 'Philex 27790R F' for the sitting room. However we wanted something a bit neater for the bedroom so took a chance on this August model.

The signal is very weak. It works ok on a 'good day'. However we cant depend on it to work day to day, so not really feasible. We've tried numerous different orientations and placements with little difference. When we tried the philex model in same room/tv it worked 1st time with 100% signal. The USB amp appears to make little difference. Signal strength is about the same either way. (40% on a good day according to our samsung tv)
