Excellent sound quality and very well made. Bass and clarity out performs more expensive full size headphones. Needs experimentation with bud sizes to get the fit right and tend to come loose from the ear easily, I find I am always touching them to push them back in. The earpieces are partly metal and the "industrial" styling may not suit everybody, but this indicates that effort has gone into sound quality that you can hear rather than appearance that you can't see (in the ear).

The button that controls music and calls via a smartphone (also works with iPod touch) is useful as it not only pauses music but also skips if desired - no fumbling in your pocket to skip a track. The microphone works well and means you can have excellent sound quality and make/receive a call.

The problem with these for me is that the fabric wrapped lead is quite stiff and springy and it will not stay neatly coiled. The result (unless you use the little circular tin that they come with) is that they get tangled very easily and once tangled are a nightmare to untangle. The stiff lead also transmits the sound of rubbing on fabric while in use.

Since I originally wrote this review the "paint" around the ear piece started to flake off. I obtained a replacement pair, but the same is happening again after a month's use. The earpiece is made of coated metal and the coating flakes off exposing the metal - the current pair is worse than the first in this respect. Further experience with the lead is that this tangles extraordinarily easily, partly due to the angular nature of the components (mic, controller, ear pieces) combined with the stiff lead. The microphone catches on a shirt collar easily and tugs at the ear.

As a result I can't really recommend them.

I'll start by saying that after a few months the paint has nearly completely flaked off the headphones, making them look quite ugly.

The good:
The microphone is of good quality.
The sound is incredibly good, especially for the price, once you get the fit of the earbuds right.

The bad:
The earpieces tend to slip out very easily regardless of the bud size, and then sound tinny and thin when they do.
The paint has flaked off in 4 months
The cable has started to fray in 4 months
The Pause/play button often double-clicks when it's clicked once and fails to properly register multiple clicks (such as a double click for next song which annoyingly just pauses your music)
The lead transmits any rubbing/contact noises through the earpieces
Incredibly frustrating to untangle

Clear, lovely rich sound. The added benefit of the single in-line control button being able to play/pause music and answer/end calls. This coupled with the in-line microphone makes calls whilst you're listening to music a doddle.

The braided cable feels strong but does seem to tangle and catch a little more than a plastic cable.

Overall very good headphones.

If you are looking for quality sound then these are it! I honestly think that these are better than Dr. Dre Beats. They are comfortable and the don't fall out of your ears. The mic version works really well and the sound is very clear while on phone calls.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very clear and clean sound with great bass, but not at the expense of mids & highs. 7 Jan. 2013

I preface this review with the admission that I bought these on a lightning sale and didn't pay the retail price - But if I knew then, what I know now - I would have paid more than $100. These Audiofly AF56 are great earphones. I own a few nice IEM's (TF10's, UE700's, Brainwavz, Vsonic, Sennheiser, etc) and I also own, or have owned some middling sets of earphones as well. The Audiofly's take their place among some of the nicer sets I own. I let these burn in for about 40 hours over at the jlabaudio website where they have a nice loop of pink/white and frequency sweeps, and they really freed up the driver. Out of the box, they sounded a bit thick and slow - after burn-in, everything opened up. For a set of IEM's with a 13mm driver, these are not sloppy bass head headphones. Bass is big, but nicely presented without losing mids and highs. There is a nice open sound here and I find it non-fatiguing. As for the general package, I like the cloth cable, even though it is a tad microphonic. The tips supplied are soft silicone - perhaps a bit too soft, as I was unable to get a proper seal with the included tips. I used some Sony Hybrids and some Comply Foams from my TF10's. With a seal, these are great. The construction is solid and the metal case that they come in is well built. All in all, I would have been happy to have paid $100 for these - If my cat gets to them, I would probably re-buy a pair - I guess that's the ultimate realization - I would have bought them without the deal.

**added info**

I just read another review of these which seemed to blame them for a static discharge - I am adding an excerpt from Head-Fi regarding static discharge - It most likely had nothing to do with the particular brand of IEM.

10. Static Electricity Discharge through IEM
It is possible to experience a static electricity discharge though IEMs.

In a cold climate with low humidity, a static charge may build up on one's body. The cable that carries the audio signal from the headphone jack to the IEM has metallic wire inside. This wire is also a path to ground through which the static charge can travel. Though one's ears are touching the plastic parts of the IEM, there is metallic wire inside. A static charge often has a high enough voltage to leap from one's ear to the metal inside of the IEM, discharging the static electricity via the cable and into the device playing the audio signal, e.g., CD player or MP3 player. The amount of electrical current in such a static discharge is not harmful, though the discharge itself can be startling.

It is important to note that such static discharges are "acts of nature" and do not indicate that one's IEMs are defective, nor will the static discharge cause harm to the IEM. Note: If you are regularly shocked by your headphone, it could indicate a leakage in the wiring. You should contact the manufacturer for repair in such a case.

These headphones almost completely eliminate all outside noise. It almost freaked me out at first when I was walking down the street and realized I couldn't hear anything that was going on around me. It was kind of surreal.

The quality of sound that comes from these is also excellent and very sturdy quality. 10/10 I will easily buy more if it comes to it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Exceptional design and sound quality..... 16 Jan. 2014

Since there are so many different earbud brands out there, I ended up purchasing (and returning) two other pairs before I ended up with the Audiofly 56's (I'll mention the two others in a moment).

The Audiofly 56 earbuds are outstanding in every way. Here's the breakdown:

Design and Functionality: The earbuds themselves have a solid feel to them. The cable is reinforced with Kevlar and has a fabric type sheathing that appears to be very durable. The button (where the cord splits) is basically a control for pause/play. There is also a mic near the top of the cable. The earbuds really fit in the ear nicely. They are very comfortable and feel secure.

Sound: Truly exceptional for this price range. Well rounded with adequate amounts of bass, mids, and highs. Creates a big sound stage for listening to all types of music.

Before receiving these, I had also tried the SENNHEISER 300B II and the Klipsch Image S4 II. The Sennheisers were somewhat disappointing. There was really nothing special about them. The sound quality was just ok and was not worth the $40 I paid for them. The vocals sounded somewhat "distant" and just didn't seem to match well. Would have done better with a pair of Skullcandy Ink'd for $20. The Klipsch was noticeably better than the Sennheiser and I spent a couple days with them. The fit in the ear was good and the overall sound was more "clean" and balanced. However, there was still something missing for me, so I then tried the AudioFly's. The jump in quality from the Klipsch to the AudioFly's was even bigger than the Sennheiser to the Klipsch, so I think I have a winner here.

Do not hesitate to try these out. You won't be disappointed.....
