The book ‘Atlas of the Night Sky’ does both. It initially lists the entire sky with 20 maps. It then lists the constellations in alphabetical order. A brief description of the constellation is given. The book lists a brief description of the brighter objects, both stars and deep-sky object. They also list the size of telescope needed to view these objects. This is very helpful when trying to spot and identify the object.
The map lists the location of each object. Using one of the brighter stars, the user can then navigate towards the object. These maps are illustrated by Wil Tirion, the leader in stellar map makers.
The book also has 16 maps of the moon included. It also provides a list of objects to view on each section of the moon. The maps are illustrated by Antonin Rukl, another leader of lunar cartography.
This is a great book for those people who are starting to search for the deep-sky object of the sky. It works great at the telescope, a must for anyone that is starting out with a telescope.
