Brilliant picture and sound quality for the main movie on the Blu Ray disc.
Worth noting, the Blu Ray disc is Region free (A-B-C), not Region A as described on here and will play in any UK Blu Ray drive, the DVDs are indeed locked Region 1 and will not play in Region 2 DVD drive.

We were initially given a very long delivery date and it arrived much sooner than the last date quoted. Very pleased, certainly looks wonderful on blu ray. Always thought this was such an under rated film and cannot see why - it's so much better than most anything else that has come out since then.

VIDEO:

ATLANTIS: THE LOST EMPIRE (blu ray):

Atlantis: Lost Empire arrives on blu ray with MPEG-4 AVC 1080p 2.35:1 encode.

Positive points: Colours are often restrained but always lovely. Black levels are rich and inky. Primaries boast real power. Contrast is filmic and consistent. Detail is exacting, and the animator's line art is crisp and refined. And every nuance and touch that went into the film has been preserved. Also, the picture is 2.35:1, rare for animated feature. But in this case, the entire video fills up my 12 foot wide screen, and that added punch and excitement to the adventure.

Negative points: The major issues with the transfer reside in aliasing and in artificial sharpening (which is easily noticeable, if not a huge detraction). Banding and mild macroblocking were noted. It didn't have the staged musical numbers or the cute talking animal sidekicks that had become Disney staples.

The picture is far more superior than its standard DVD counterparts, but in high definition, the transfer is disappointing (3.5/5)

ATLANTIS: MIL'S RETURN (blu ray):

No positive point.

Negative points: All the problems that existed in Atlantis: Lost Empire are present and magnified many times here. Colours are not saturated and image was soft. The picture does not look high definition, rather like an upconverted DVD. Everything that made the first movie interesting to watch – cool character design, eye-popping visuals, stunningly animated action sequences – are completely lost on this movie.

Please don’t waste your time watching this. (1.5/5)

AUDIO:

ATLANTIS: THE LOST EMPIRE (blu ray):

The saving grace of this movie is certainly the DTS-HD Master Audio 5.

This combination pack is good value as the blu-ray version of these films is accompanied by DVD version (Regional Code 1) and concerns Milo attempts to find Atlantis and live up to his father. This 2001 film is the 40th in the Disney Classic Collection in which Disney created a language for the Atlantean inhabitants and is concerned with finding the fabled city with many adventures on the way in which Milo eventually saves the day with the help of new friendships and teamwork. Part 2 which was made for TV and DVD release has MIlo again saving the fabled city
