Product Description

Product Description

Reviewing Charlotte Greig's last album "Down In The Valley" HM719, the Sunday Times commented that "Greig is on the verge of a serious creative breakthrough". Well, here's that breakthrough."At Llangennith" sees Greig step out of the darkness that characterised "Down In The Valley". The deliberately claustrophobic harmonium and drum machine of the last album have been exchanged for the airiness of layered guitars and keyboards, without losing any of the sparse economy that is her trademark, while the songs themselves see Greig exchanging sin and damnation for sensuality and salvation. The shimmering John Martyn-esque guitars are played by Newport's Julian Hayman. Greig sings, plays piano, harmonium, dulcimer and samples old Topic records."A series of albums that are redefining the parameters of British folk music" - fRoots

Here Charlotte Greig further develops her quiet style of music from the previous Down in the Valley. The songs sometimes have a traditional feel, they are sometimes very long, and lyrically nor musically are they as strong as the later, excellent Winter Woods. This is very much a folk album for those who might like a quiet, relaxed sound. As a one-off speculative purchase, go for Winter Woods instead.
