As a parent of a dyslexic child this is a very reassuring book full of strategies to help your child in a positive way without putting extra pressure on them. It is very accessible with pictures and direct experiences. It puts dyslexia in a positive light so that we can help our children make the most of what they are good at develop their confidence.
This is book is by far the best book I have read on Dyslexia. It is very comprehensive and accessible for parents, children and professionals. The books layout and illustrations are great I would highly recommend as a resource for any parent or child with Dyslexia.
‘At Home with Dyslexia: A Parent's Guide to Supporting Your Child’ helps parents to support their child with dyslexia by providing many evidence-based recommendations and presenting it in an accessible and easy to follow format. It details some of the most common problem areas for all ages; reading, spelling, and writing, as well as some of the associated difficulties commonly present in dyslexia; working memory, study skills and organisation. Not forgetting the impact that dyslexia has on self-esteem and confidence, this book also discusses this, as well as some simple but effective ways to support and advocate for your child through the education system. A useful guide that can be dipped in and out of when needed and also a useful accompaniment to an educational psychology assessment report.
We have only been told in recent days Our 11 year old son has dyslexia. It came as no surprise to me as I suspected it but did not trust my instinct enough. Sascha mentions this in her book, trust yourself don’t wait for the educators you will lose too many vital years. The book is an excellent source of information, written jargon free and very informative when you are like us and only finding your feet. The comments from parents and children will resonate with you and you will have a greater connection because they will be so personal to you and your child.
This is such a helpful book for parents, and all teachers should be made to read it too! As a parent of a dyslexic teen I would thoroughly recommend this book, and I wish I had had such a book to hand seven years ago! Both the Case Studies and the quotes by the children themselves give an honest insight into how tough daily life/school can be for children/teens with dyslexia, and each chapter covers so many aspects and offers practical help to support your child.
This is a really helpful book which is written in a very accessible way for parents. My only regret is that it has only been published now - at the start of my journey two years ago exploring Dyslexia and how to support my teenage daughter - I looked at lot of other books - and none matches this really excellent and practical guide.
