I love cruising and was hoping this book would be a little more "below stairs" informing us of life on the ocean wave. It read like a travelog, which is not what I was expecting. I was left looking for more!

IT WAS A NICE WAY TO LOOK INTO THE WEALTHY IN THIS WORLD,WHO GO TO TRY TO SHOW OFF THEIR WEALTH IT MAKES ME THINK IT IS A SILLY WAY OF LIFE,TO SPEND MONEY WITH NO THOUGHT AT ALL TO THE WORKING CLASSES OF THIS WORLD.I AM PROUD TO BE A NORMAL HUMAN.

I very much enjoyed reading this account of the other side of cruising. The exclusive, luxury side where every whim or wish is granted (for a price). Heaven or hell ??? I guess if you're used to being waited on or served caviar while still in the swimming pool, then this is your normal. Hugh Thomson brought this micro world into clear focus. Enjoyable, well written but as a "Amazon single" style book, I hankered for the longer version. An excellent choice for a flight or while sipping a champagne cocktail.

As always with Hugh Thomson's books, this is well written. A highly amusing study of human nature aboard a round-the-world cruise, told with his refreshingly anarchic view of the world, and a fair bit of travel advice thrown in. I read it in two longish sittings, and it ended leaving me wanting more.

An enjoyable look into how the other half live, although I would have liked the book to be longer and perhaps go into more details about the day to day running, passengers and staff. A good read for the hour before you board a flight, just as long as you aren't going on your first cruise as I imagine after reading this you would be woefully disappointed!

I thought this would be an interesting read as we have had quite a few cruises. However I found it a bit boring really

Having both sailed as a passenger and worked on cruise ships, I found this book quite disappointing, maybe I was expecting more about the mixture of passengers one meets onboard cruise ships

I f you are expecting anecdotes/ gossip/famous people/ forget it, this is just a self indulgent, introspective monologue, mainly based in places we have never heard of. Sorry, author!
