Amazon kindly replaced the motherboard. The second motherboard did not initially exhibit the same problem, but it did exhibit short freezes from the very first day. I thought it may be due to a different reason but, a month and a half later, the duration of the freeze led to the same blue screen and the same Stop Code.
I am sorry I cannot recommend this motherboard to anyone, even though this is one of the most feature-rich motherboards available.
The look is understated but the metal accents pop in cases with side panels. The connectivity options are second to none with more than enough Sata ports for the most power hungry users. PCI-E lane wise, it comes armed with 7 full length lanes enough for 4 way SLI / Crossfire configurations no issue and thanks to the PLX chips runs GPU’s at x16 rather than the x8 you would get in some cases when you go for 3 or 4 way configurations. Stability wise it provides my 5960x with 1.35 volts steady and thanks to getting a good J batch chip clocks in at an 4.75 Ghz and can be pushed in excess of 4.8 Ghz with additional voltage. At 1.31 volts I can run the 5960x at 4.625 Ghz with multiplier at 37 and bclk at 125, which goes to show the power delivery on this board is top notch. For the power hungry users who may need to feed more power to GPU's there is a dedicated power port located above the top PCI-E lanes to provide additional direct power to said lanes.
So what do you get in the box. In addition to the board itself, you get the User guide, Warranty booklet, driver CD, 2 way, 3 way and 4 way SLI bridge, Rear IO shield, Com port cable, 1 x USB 2.0 connector, Q connector (Tool on to which you put front IO cables onto before adding on to motherboard to make things less fiddly) and 12 Sata connectors.
My only small quibble with the motherboard is it seems to throw a tantrum now and then when connected to a Custom loops water pump. It did not seem to happy with the CPU fan being the pump. This is due to the impeller in the pump starting up slightly to late for detection, so if needed you can reduce said detection rate in the BIOS. Also a very minor nitpick would be the CPU fan header being right in the middle of the motherboard. Would have been a lot nicer with it at the edge of the board. Additionally the Ram slots may very slightly interfere with GPU;s in the top slot that have a thick backplate. I could not for example fit the EK backplate on properly and get the GPU in and only managed to do so when I used an EVGA backplate on the top GPU.
In all this is an amazing board. While not explicitly a gamer board as the ROG line is by ASUS, there is no lack of features that would dissatisfy anyone. The colour theme while not the most important aspect for most is understated with the monochrome effect. The connectivity options and being armed with the PLX chips is a great feature for the power hungry users and the plethora of included Sata cables will make most happy. In all a great X99 motheboard
X99 e WS, Intel 5820k, 32GB DDR4, Aquaero 6 XT with kit (Aqualis Resevoir, D5 pump, filter, High flow meter, Airflex Radical radiator 360mm), 3 radiators in total, 560ti SLI at 16X, Hauppauge Collosus TV Capture, Hauppauge HVR 120 TV Tuner, Streacom ST OB3 slot loading blu ray drive, Corsair AX1200i PSU.
I highly recommend it to anyone as the board provides additional lanes to even the lower tier 5820k beating a 5930k or 5960x build with 40 lanes. Its well worth the purchase.
When I connected my hp printer to it by usb cable I got the message the device not recognized even though the drivers were installed and it printed wirelessly. After trying several cables and testing all the usb ports it finally recognized the printer.
Now I'm having the same issue with the pc not recognizing my android phone even though it recognized it last week and nothing has changed. The phone is picked up fine on my windows 10 laptop and macbook pro. The pc is using Windows 10 as well.
I returned the motherboard for a replacement and Amazon were great but now the new motherboard has all the same issues.
My new MB has now developed more issues. It now won't boot and constantly hangs on the boot screen. The error code is for a "ready boot event". I had to reset it 5 times last night before it would boot. I contacted Asus tech support and they were usless. There solution was to return it for a replacement rather than try and fix the issue. Amazon hace been great and accepted the return but never buying an Asus Motherboard again. I'd give it no stars if I could.
