The first book in the Iron Portal series is an intriguing fantasy romance.

Rickert is a Cascadian assassin that protects one of the iron portals between Cascadia and Pacifica. Neyla is a talent that has been drafted into the Pacifican army against her will. When Rickert finds Neyla unconscious by the portal, he knows he can't kill her, but he can't let the enemy keep using her talent, either, so he brings her to his home.

The author has created a unique world of romance, greed, suspense, action and magic. The plot flows at even steady pace with twists and surprises along the way that keep things interesting. Strong characters draw the reader deeper into the story and the words leap off the page drawing the reader along on this great adventure.

I love how the author has created two different timelines in one story. One world has evolved with technology and mimics our present, while the other seems to mimic our medieval past. The scenes are well written and flow smoothly with no confusion as to where the characters are in the storyline.

The romance between our hero and heroine progresses in a believable rate with well written and steamy sex scenes.

The final battle with Neyla's former team is rather abrupt, for them to be such terrors to the Cascadian people. It was okay scene that I think could have been great had the scene been expanded on some.

I found this book to be an engaging and entertaining read and I will be looking forward to reading future books in the series.

In an alternate reality exists two worlds, both at war with each other. Neyla is drawn into this war against her will when it is discovered that she has a latent Talent. Enscripted into the army, in a war full of propaganda and struggling with the mistrust of the soldiers she's supposed to be fighting with, she is injured by a soldier on her side and captured by a 'barbarian'.

Taken over into Cascadia, she soon learns that the war is different to the stories that she's been fed. Given time to spend with the citizens, she realises that she doesn't want to go back. Of course, Rickert might also play a big part in that as the attraction between the two absolutely sizzles.

This is a fantastic start to the series with wonderful world-building. The characters are all full-bodied and believable, even the ones you dislike. Thoroughly enjoyable and definitely recommended for those who want a short but hot paranormal romance read.

The very talented Ms. London's new series Iron Portal has everything you want to read in a book.  Adventure, Sex,  you name it this book has it.
Nyla Trihorn was a Protection -Talent didn't really like her job, she was forced to join the Army The Pacificans for war and had to give her little shop. On a mission one of Nyla's teammates attacks her. Rickert is the leader of The Cascadian Warriors who are the protectors of the Portal. Finding Nyla, Rickert was going to put her in prison BUT when he touched he had a vision of him and Nyla together.... I was gifted  this ARC for an honest and truthful review.

I totally enjoyed the story of Rickert and Neyla. The way Laurie London has brought brought the past and present together and added a twist of the paranormal. It's good v evil and how a small group of worriers take on the might of a large army to keep there world and way of life safe.

Sorry but this didn't hook me at all. The characters were flimsy and the writing rather pedestrian, plus I figured by chapter two I'd probably guessed the plot twist.

Downloading the next in the series as I enjoyed reading book one.
I love it when I can't wait to pick a book back up and this was the case here.
