I have the best wifi available in my area of the UK so I'm not trying to play it on location in the Caribbean or some s***.
Maybe 3/4 hours of content before that point and then blocked. Also there has been barely of a mention of the Assassin's or their ethos before this so it's not really worth being called "assassin's creed" and the modern story is godawful, although mostly optional. This is necessary when the gameplay revolves around staring at a "tablet" and looking at the development team, who decided they had to be IN the game as the credits just weren't glamorous enough.
The pirating is awesome though, and skipping out on the daft yearly releases (ac3 & Liberation) makes the gameplay improvements much more noticable and cool, tree climbing and hunting being the best new additions. There is no detriment to the modern day story by skipping those games, so if Sony/Ubi ever fixes this game it would be a great starting point for new players.
