From the Inside Flap

Young Fitz is the bastard son of the noble Prince Chivalry, raised in the shadow of the royal court by his father's gruff stableman. He is treated like an outcast by all the royalty except the devious King Shrewd, who has him sectetly tutored in the arts of the assassin. For in Fitz's blood runs the magic Skill--and the darker knowledge of a child raised with the stable hounds and rejected by his family. As barbarous raiders ravage the coasts, Fitz is growing to manhood. Soon he will face his first dangerous, soul-shattering mission. And though some regard him as a threat to the throne, he may just be the key to the survival of the kingdom.

The first book of a wild ride and my personal favourite book series. I bought this as a gift to try and convince a friend to enter the world of the Farseers; I cannot recommend this series enough. With all the extended world novels you can read all of them and have a full understanding of the rich world or stick within certain characters books and they're just as readable.

Truly I cannot recommend this series enough- this year has seen the final book published in a cycle of somewhere around 15 novels, so now is the perfect time to start safe in the knowledge that you can binge all the way through. Having been with this series for something like 10 years words can't fully explain how much I love these books; Hobb's writing is so skillful, her characters so honest and complex, that each feels like a full, real person- Fitz is a wonderfully flawed, real character who you ultimately cannot help but love. If you are on the fence about buying this, get off it and start reading!

Excellent fantasy fiction with a brilliant central character. Fitz, the bastard son of the crown prince, chivalry, of the 6 duchies.
We follow his life from the age of around 6 when he is dumped by his peasant grandfather on to the hands of his uncle 'verity'.
Fitz is put into the charge of the kings stable master and is raised as a castle brat, wild and without much love.
He eventually comes to the attention of his grandfather 'shrewd' the King. And is given over to the master assassin to apprentice.
What follows is a tight and twisty story of intrigue and adventure.
Overall it's a rich world with some excellent charectors and a great threat in prince 'regal' and the out islander red ship raiders

Fairly standard, well done fare for fantasy. Not a lot of highs or lows but steadily good all the way through. Worth reading.

Once in a while you pick up a book and just cannot put it down. This does it for me. Love the main characters. Story line is interesting. Still reading this and I have no idea what the conclusion is going! No - I refuse the jump to the last chapter!
Thank you Mr Hobb.
