Found this book very well written, fast paced and full of action to keep you on your toes. Seems scarily close to the truth. All in all a good read I will keep up to date with any more books in the series.

Started off very well and then there seemed to be a bit of a lull. It then picked up again and the pace improved considerably. Overall it was a good read but you need a strong stomach when the torture of prisoners is being described (if you have a good imagination). A good bed time thriller that involves a re-employed crack shot CIA agent and a rich Arab who supplies the terrorists with all the funds that they need to create murder and mayhem.I recommend this for a good yarn with excitement and a large dollop of terror as the story is quite believable.

This novel was a great read. With good characterization and a plot that pulls the reader on to the end, chapter after chapter, it's a well put together and exciting book.

This is Jay Deb second thriller “Contrived” being the first. I received this book some time ago and luckily I had put it aside to read some others I had in backlog. This was a good move. Apparently, the first edition was riddled with errors and needless to say annoyed more than one reader. A later revision was issued to correct what reviewers had noticed and this is the version I read and I hardly noticed any of the slipping mistakes, if any at all.

With this cleared up. “The Assassin” is a real page turner and I am impressed how this author has grown since his first attempt. The style is still a bit chaotic and the dialogue too sophomoric and needs to mature subsequently. Not knowing anything about the CIA’s world I was easily drawn into the fast paced and gripping suspense and there is a lot of it. The characterization is varied and we have a very riveting lead man. The plot is good but is the run of the mill storyline with many gaps for us to fill and few flowery details to trip over.

Overall this novel is entertaining and is a thrill for anyone who enjoys fictionalized stories around of CIA and its operatives those hunting terrorists planning attacks in order to kill as many US citizens as possible.

The writing is by a 12 year old, the plot is absolutely banal, for only the second time in over twenty years I did not carry on to the end and switched it of 60% through.

If this was written by a 5 y/o it would still be woeful. It's like watching a really bad "B" movie and ending up laughing at the preposterous story line, embarrassing dialogue (the terrorist, who's never been to America until he is smuggled across the border, says things like "darn" and "heck") and pathetic stereotyping (nearly all the American characters at some stage use the phrases "this great country of our"/"that's what makes this country great"). eg : The Assassin's wife asks him if his murdered son it actually his son - he responds by saying that he will tell her everything about this previous life, rather than ask why she is asking such a question, but asks her to wait until Saturday. When she says she wants to know now, he asks her to wait 2 minutes whilst he changes into his PJs. He's approached whilst practicing for his 100m track race (he'd been running laps which 100m runners would never do) by a fat guy with a huge umbrella who say "Hi, I'm Ted. I'm a recruiter for the CIA" and is immediately believed rather than suspecting that he's being solicited!
The author thanks his editor at the end of the book....he had an editor? Christ, money for old rope.
