Very powerful machine as expected for an i5 3.2ghz. Put it on High Performance and it is fast. I got extra memory so took it up to 8gb RAM. The guy at store did it for me for a fiver.
The only problem I've got is with the keyboard which has very flimsy buttons... quite cheap looking and when pressing. I've had a few buttons come loose (although easy to fix). Buttons do need to be pressed pretty hard as it is common for letters not to appear as you type.
HDMI... I use a 32 inch TV as my screen so just link it together, one press of a button. I then extend it so as i can use both monitors... one for browsing, films... the other for Football Manager. No problem running multiple programmes, run very fast.
1 star reviews... i respect everyone's opinion on this machine, but problems with laptops of all kinds are common and doesn't mean the same faults appear on tall of them. Some folk have been unfair and seem to blame the machine for them not liking Windows 8 . I've read about WiFi dropping, but mines has always been solid and finds devices easily too. There are a host of issues with WiFi that aren't down to the machine's router. The machine has 2g wifi but i use a 5g usb stick which it finds quickly and is solid.
Screen is fine, great for HD... no stuttering, no buffering. Looks great for 1080 and I've even ran 2160p without problems.
CONCLUSION : Solid for the price, but pretty poor keyboard. The DVD drive is also quite cheap and is loud, but I never use it anyway. If you where watching DVDs though it might annoy you. I stream or use mp4s.
I am ditching this product at the earliest time and returning to my Samsung RV510 running Windows 7. It has always worked and has never had any problems - Why ever did I think of changing from it!
If you are not prepared to go through the necessary learning curve then don't buy the product.
Windows Vista was a disaster, and Windows 7 is more or less Vista with the nasty bits removed,
and now works very well. Windows 8 is simply Windows 7 with an additional sub-system that is in fact very
good if you take the time to learn and understand it. I didn't like the start button being removed but that is a minor problem that can be fixed in one minute after which you can use the system as Windows 7 or Windows 8.
Everyone has their preference but you can only decide which one you prefer after you understand the system.
In this case at least you can have the choice of either.
Computer systems have been mis-sold for years, making you believe that all you do is plug it in and away you go. The reality is that there is a learning curve that everyone has to go through and there are no short cuts or silver bullets. If you are not prepared to invest the time don't go there, simple as that.
You will also notice that all the software you need to interact with the system has to be bought in addition and likewise has its own learning curve so do the math first. Then ask yourself if you are prepared to invest the same amount of time learning the system as you did with your new mobile phone.
The old saying " a little knowledge can be a dangerous thing " comes to mind.
What I liked it doesn't heat so heavily as two of the previous and it is more silent.
What I don't like: it doesn't have a led to highlight it when you have hit the caps on key and it doesn't have the two buttons to turn the volume up and down (to do it you need to use two keys, far away each other, that is to say both the hands).
Eventually, the Windows 8 o.s. creates more problems than solutions and there is no advantages to use in a not touch screen laptop like this one: some apps simply don't work and I needed to install the correspondent for laptops (that is to say for Windows 7)
