If you’re a fan of single dad romances and, like me, you loved A.M. Hargrove’s ‘For The Love of English’ then you MUST read this!!
From Ashes To Flames has sent me on an emotional roller coaster of a ride. And what a ride! The fast paced plot had me hooked from the beginning and kept on the edge of my seat for most of the time, when I wasn't chuckling to myself. One hilarious scene in particular had me laughing so out loud so hard. You can always rely on this author to add her quirky sense of humour to her books. Pure genius!
I love a strong female lead who isn’t afraid to say what she’s thinking and Marin McLain was all that and more. With her rainbow coloured hair, piercings and tattoos and sassy mouth Dr. Greydon West didn’t know what had hit him. He'd definitely met his match with Marin.
Although Grey seemed quite distant and unfeeling at the start I adored that hot, sexy doctor *sighs*. Did I mention that he was hot?
I did feel for Grey over what he went through but at one point I did want to grab him by the shoulders to shake some sense into him and shout, ‘GET A GRIP, MAN!! LOOK WHAT YOU’RE DOING!!!!’
Six year old Kinsley TOTALLY stole the show. She turned my heart to mush with her Irish step-dancing and her ‘clicky shoes’.
From Ashes To Flames was a definite 'Goldilocks' read for me...just right.
It had just the right amount of humour, angst, drama, tension and sizzling, hot passion. Oh, and the surprise at the end was simply perfect!
I know I’m not doing this book the justice it deserves but trust me, this is one you need on your kindle. Go #1Click the hell out of this, I can't recommend it enough!!
Retreating both mentally and physically Marin was practically reclusive after returning to live with her parents and for the most part, her folks had been the support that she needed but they knew that they had to pull the rug from under a wallowing Marin and insist that she takes up a new job. Luckily, they have one lined up, their friend’s son is looking for a live-in nanny to help take care of his home and kids. Suddenly this spunky twenty-something is going to have a whole new challenge ahead…she has no clue how to care for a kid, let alone two!!
Greydon West is a single father, widowed in the most traumatic of circumstances when his wife dies as a result of an aviation incident. But when the details of his wife’s life start to surface, he learns that there is so much about the woman he loved, so much that he has to not only learn but also learn to accept about the state of his life and the relationship he really had with the mother of his children, Kinsley and Aaron.
Drowning in not only work, worry and woe, Greydon quickly accepts that as difficult as his personal situation is at the moment, his kids need him to step up to the plate and help them to navigate their situation, living their lives without their mother. So a nanny seemed like a clever idea, what he hadn’t anticipated was someone as unique as Marin.
They were poles apart, neither of them in a particularly good place emotionally and for me, I think that maybe that could explain the fact that there was always a little something different about the two of them.
A real opposite attracts story, the forty-something doctor, single dad and the twenty-something who didn’t fit into any of his expected dynamics. He was narky and belligerent in many ways, he didn’t wear his pain well, he allowed his emotional bruises to show, but Marin was wise to him and his attitude and she was never going to let his attitude fly…ok the joy!
I thought the story took almost every emotion and gave it purpose, it was heartbreaking in many ways but through that pain shone hope, the author brought to the fore, the fact that no matter how much pain, whatever the situation, if you look hard enough and are receptive enough, you will find your own little bit of happy and for Greydon and his kids, that happiness came all wrapped up in a Marin shaped package.
An absolute emotional roller coaster of a story, had me in tears one minute and then laughing the next. This is a second chance romance story that really pulls at the heartstrings for each character.
Dr. West also, known by a fair few other names from his nanny, I also called him a few names that I won't mention He does come across as a first class p***k most of the time but understandably why but my god this man could be so frustrating with his brooding ways!
He has been completely blindsided by what his wife done to him and he is full of anger at not being able to confront her and she has left him with so much uncertainty. As much as you want to punch him for the way he is and the way he treats his new nanny you can't help but love him all at the same time.
He has a side to him that makes you really question if this is the same man!
Marin came into his life when he was not in a good place, she was different and he wasn't sure how to cope with her, his children fell in love with her and he soon realizes he may be falling for her too.
Marin has just found her best friend and boyfriend in a bit of a compromising position!! Moving back to her parents has her becoming a bit of a hermit, she doesn't want to face the world and when she does it's not in the way her parents want her to, a rebelling teenager comes to mind! Her parents soon have enough and set her up to be a nanny for Dr. West.
This is about to rock her world in ways she would never imagine. Her first impression of him was not a good one! He was old and moody, how on earth was she going to manage this new life? She surprises herself when she goes from not knowing anything about raising children and supporting their old grouchy father to being the strong woman they all need!
This little family goes through hell and back, the 2 children are the most adorable children I think I have ever read about, the author has a way of making you want to wrap them up in cotton wool and never let them go! Marin is a strong woman, she stands up to Grey like no one has ever done before and he starts to fall for her and her quirky attitude.
Can Marin see him as anything but an older man?
This was written perfectly, full of all the feels! The uncertainty of what was about to happen will keep you turning the pages with the perfect ending!
