Ashes is Kyla’s debut album. "Writing songs was something I always did because I felt like it was the only way I could release all the noise and cluttered emotions inside my head. It was, and is, an escape." Says Kyla.
“It’s a place where I can be alone and immerse myself in emotions that I don't really know how to handle in real life."
This is the deluxe edition with three extra tracks.

18 months is a long time to wait for an album and expectations can build so high that you end up disappointed with the final result, but I'm glad to say that this album is a stunner. Every track seems to be beautifully written and performed, it sometimes has a hint of Kate Bush or Florence in there which is no bad thing and gives you an idea of what this album sounds like.
Personal favourites on the album are To Be Torn, Vampire Smile, Heavy Stone and The River but it's difficult to pick stand out track when there isn't a duff track on here. Whether you're 21 (my brother) or 42 (me) this is an album for any age, have a listen to the mp3 previews and decide for yourself..
P.S. get the deluxe edition the extra 3 tracks are worth the extra outlay.
The only problem I have with this release is the 'hidden' track - this just doesn't work with mp3s.

WHY DID YOU SELECT THIS ONE? It was cheap and the cover of a pretty girl dancing made me think: a pop album by a girl singer with a name that is close to Kylie. At this price, why not?
WHAT DO YOU THINK OF THE COVER? It's a pretty girl dancing. It sold it to me before I looked at the track list. The song titles sound par for the course for a Kylie style pop album. `To Be Torn', `Been Better' and `You Let It Go' suggest standard songwriting of no great originality. I bought the Deluxe Edition which has blander grey artwork and the picture is now in negative. It's not as nice as the standard version. The upside (perhaps?) is that this edition comes with three extra songs.
WHAT TYPE OF MUSIC ARE YOU REALISTICALLY EXPECTING? Dance-pop. Something about it suggests a very compressed and controlled, austerely flamboyant production style like Metric (a pop band that sound like they are playing in an expensive five star hotel lobby) or Joy Division (all emotion suppressed to an ember by the producer).
BEST CASE SCENARIO IT WILL SOUND LIKE? Aphrodite era Kylie Minogue with a hint of Metric.
WORST CASE SCENARIO IT WILL SOUND LIKE? Kyla could be a guy as far as I know. Men should not sing pop music. A pop song not sung by a woman is a wasted track.
HIGH, LOW OR MIDDLING EXPECTATIONS? Mildly high. I don't think it's going to be a great album, but I can imagine it having a slew of good songs that I'll be only too happy to play again and again.

Cat Patrick has produced another great 'What if...' book. What if books are those that contain a fantastical element, but are otherwise based solely in the real world. For her last novel, 'Forgotten', she wondered what it would be like to remember your future but not you past and in 'Revived' she asks what if you had the power to bring someone back from the dead.
The book starts as a slightly out of the ordinary teen novel but moves on to discuss moral ana philosophical problems about life and drug trials. Cat Patrick's world creation is flawless and utterly enjoyable to read, her charaters are realistic and she has managed to create another romance that is slightly out of the ordinary. I didn't enjoy this as much as forgotten but is came pretty close.
I'm waiting anxiously for The Originals, becuase after reading two of her novels I can definitely proclaim myself a fan.
