Review

"This series has a bit of everything--magic, myth, action, romance...ah, the romance! There is something so appealing about forbidden love, especially when it leads to a happily-ever-after. I have to say, I love the way this ended. Of course, I won't give spoilers, but the ending was perfect." --"Diary of A Bibliophile"

"Hocking is so talented in her ability to mold characters and have them grow, a rare talent many authors lack. She has the ability to make the growth of these characters amazingly realistic. Now, I won't give anything away but I will say READ them! They are amazing!" -"The First 100 Pages "

"I read these three books back-to-back-to-back. The story had me so engaged, that I could not put it down. I was reading in the car, at school, on my bed, at the dinner table, and in the media room. You could call it an obsession." -"Reading Vacation Reviews"

""

"""Loved this book! One of the best final books I've ever read. I feel like the ending went a little fast but Im a sucker for a nice happy ending and I just plain LOVE this series!" -"Library Thing"

And with the romance, Hocking throws in a nice surprising twist that was refreshing, and which makes "Ascend" shine even brighter. *****CONTAINS SPOILERS*********
I thought, overall, that all three books were written childishly in places with undetailed language and everything that happened was way too expected and easy. I've read a lot of books and the good ones always have parts where things don't go the way you want them too which is actually what you do want because then when things do go the way you want them too it's way more satisfying. Like any teenage girl could fantasize about a good looking stranger staring at them (book 1) and their reasoning being that you're very attractive, but we're not reading our fantasy, we're reading a book that we want to relate to and things like that don't happen so easily in real life. This meant that the book became predictable and I knew that whenever a problem arose it would sort itself out without any consequences, which is like the most boring way to read a book.

Not only that but by the end of the trilogy pretty much every single predominant character had survived, which absolutely sucks. obviously Elora died but, for the love of God, it was the most anticlimactic and underplayed death I had ever read about. Once I got to know the childish style of the book I began to realise that literally every character would survive and it would end with a one of those happily-ever-after endings. Which it did, making me want to pull my hair out because normally in a book when everything is going perfect, that's the moment when everything shatters and reality sets in - so how can we be happy with a completely perfect ending? You know, it's not like I'm some 10 year old who thinks that's the only way to end a book.

And don't even get me started on the love triangle (-ish) relationships between Wendy, Loki and Finn.

I loved the first two books in the trylle series, I loved everything about them, the story, the characters but i think the third book really lets the series down. It started off good but about half way through i felt a change, i could see where it was heading, and i didnt like it. The ending is wishy washy, it seems rushed and just doesn't seem to fit with the rest of the story.

But for me the biggest disappointment which ruined the whole series was how it ended romantically, I just don't understand the reasoning behind it, it seems our hearts were let to believe one thing and you could feel the love so strongly between the characters for it to be then switched to something else. It just didn't seem right and for me a huge disappointment is an understatement.

I was so excited to read this final book in the Trylle trilogy - I absolutely loved the first two books and I couldn't wait to find out how it all ends.

This trilogy just got better and better and I feel sad that it's all over, but at the same time I feel strangely satisfied because of the way it ended - for me everything was tied up and resolved so I'm not left wondering what might happen after the book finished.

As with the previous books there was lots of action and breathtaking moments that just kept me turning page after page, I literally couldn't get enough and read it in just a few hours. I actually find it quite difficult to express just how much I enjoyed this trilogy, it really was amazing and is definitely one of my new favourites!

The characters have really grown throughout all three books and it was great to follow them as they found their places in life. There wasn't a single character that I disliked (apart from the obvious bad guy) and I really wanted the best for them all. Wendy seemed to have found her power in this book and was much more in control, until she was around certain male characters of course. We also saw a much softer side to Elora which is something that I had a feeling was there but she did a good job of hiding.

Loki had to be my favourite character of them all - aside from being sexy and strong, he was also very cheeky and funny and I loved that about him. The morning after the wedding was a particular favourite `Loki' moment of mine, it had me laughing out loud as I could picture the scene so vividly.

I was pleased that it all ended the way I had hoped it would, I've heard of some people who were unhappy with how it finished but for me personally it couldn't have been better!

This trilogy had everything that I was looking for - danger, romance (which includes a fantastic love triangle), sadness, shocks and so much more. I would recommend these books to anyone and everyone!

(SPOILER WARNING: reveals certain key elements of the plot)
I have now read all three books in the series, and in my opinion, they decline in quality as you read them.
The first one, when I read it, was good enough; a little easy and frequently resorting to poor and undetailed language, but with a plot that did not fall apart as soon as you looked at it.
The second, I was annoyed at how Wendy manages to escape from Ondarike so easily, it really seemed just to be a way for the author to A: insert Loki into the story, and B: take up some more pages.
Having always liked Tove, I was satisfied with her engagement to him, since it at least had some depth and reason. At this point, I knew that she wouldn't be with him forever, though, and I was leaning towards the prospect of her marrying Finn in the end, as the books up to now had done a lot with building their relationship.
In Ascend, I felt the plot really started to go downhill. Elora's death was anticlimactic and turns out to be pretty much the only protagonist's death in the entire trilogy that is named. The others all feature in stories or unnamed happenings (such as the Vittra attack in the first book) and despite many of the characters often being in near-death situations, I never felt any real excitement because I knew that the chances of any of them dying were very low indeed.
The climax was a battle in Ondarike. Turns out it was pretty much the shortest battle in history, ending when Wendy gives Oren a headache and cuts off his head after feeling nothing more than `Really Pissed Off' about the fact that Loki has just been killed (but don't worry! He'll come back to life later!
