I loved this gorgeous love story, written with a sure touch and a big heart. --Bestselling author, Lisa Jewell.
About the Author
Jan Brigden lives in South East London with her husband and motley crew of cuddly toys. Jan's written for pleasure from a young age; short stories for classmates, odes for workmates, fun quizzes for family and friends, progressing to her first novel, the idea for which sprang from a script she composed as part of a creative writing course. After attending many author talks, literary events, and connecting with writers and readers on Facebook and Twitter, Jan learned of and subsequently joined the Romantic Novelists' Association New Writers' Scheme. An avid reader, reviewer and all round book devotee, Jan is also one eighth of online group blog called The Romaniacs.

The story is about two main characters Alex (a famous high profile footballer in the Premier League) and Rebecca (a down to earth woman living in a tragic situation who lives a world apart from a celebrity lifestyle) and their forbidden attraction to each other and their unconventional romance. They are such an endearing couple, you just keep your fingers crossed for them to see if they will make it or not and the sexual tension was off the charts. Alex is so swoon worthy but with an air of mystique about him and Rebecca is the antithesis of what a footballer would like as a partner in today's football world, she is so lovely, generous, caring, yet vulnerable and down to earth but grows in confidence to stand up and believe in herself when pushed to the limit. Your heart just goes out to her. This story also gives you an insight to what it is like to be a high profile sports person to live in the media spotlight all the time and how they cope with their celebrity status which can be a hard challenge at times for them and their families and friends.
The secondary characters such as Abi, Kenny, Marina and Nick are absolutely delightful and hilarious. I had so many laugh out aloud moments, they were just so wacky and wild but so unconventionally pragmatic in tryiing to help out the Alex and Rebecca solve their confusion about each other. To be honest, I wished the story was longer and I wish we had more moments of Alex and Rebecca alone.
As I am a great football fan, the theme of the story had me interested and I could relate to the believable setting and real life characters. (You do not have to be a football lover to read this story, it is well worth reading for the characters and story itself and the interwoven plot is very well written for each of the characters and very believable), The story also gives a reader an uplifting look at life in general and that sometimes life is too short and sometimes you have to follow your heart and dreams even though it might be a huge risk of going wrong in the end.
This novel has a feel good factor where you are rooting for the underdog couple and deserves to be made into a British comedy drama film, it is so good in the mold of say Love Actually or Kinky Boots. I wish the story was longer and it deserves a sequel. I feel there is more to come with Alex and Rebecca in the next segment of their lives. Hoping Alex gets transferred to Real Madrid or Barcelona FC and his trials and tribulations of adjusting to another league. Lol What a sequel that would be.
This is definitely one of my favourite stories and keeper on the bookshelf. I highly recommend this novel, you will enjoy this story with all the twists and turns on the rocky road to romance.
A little over long on description and short on character development and relationship for me.
