As a long time fan of the work of Baillie Scott, I was keen to buy this volume, having read a positive review in 'Country Life'. It is well produced, and contains many excellent photographs of his houses as they stand today (for better or worse). Written definitely from an American point of view (e.g. use of terms such as 'Shingle Style') but that doesn't obtrude too much. Overall an enjoyable book for those interested in Arts & Crafts architecture.

The content and presentation of the book is very good and does not disappoint generally,
however it was frustrating to find so many typograpical errors together with a few minor technical errors.

It is good that the author is helping to give Baillie Scott the public recognition he so rightly deserves and that more of his work is being documented.

It appears that the research was well done but that there was a rush to get it into print and that too few - or perhaps the wrong people - were selected to check the final draft.

This author is a photographer and this book is essentially a photographic record of the houses and gardens of Baillie Scott. If you want a more learned, better written analysis of the subject, then look elsewhere This is not a book for its writing. There is nothing wrong with a book of photographs, particulary given the subject matter of Baillie Scott's houses. More's the pity the photographs are not better presented and the book better designed - something of a surprise given that the publisher is Rizzoli. Buy with caution and modest expectations ....

Not yet fully read but seems an excellent book to review the work of a great Arts and Crafts architect.

However although the photo illustrations are generally well taken, appropriate and of good colour quality
in several cases those printed in this copy seem to be slightly off focus and could be crisper.
I feel that this is perhaps a printing quality factor rather than in the original photos.
Maybe a copy from a different print run could be better ?
