4.0 out of 5 stars Totally Kenton/Rugolo/Nova 1 Oct. 2013
By Glen Gellatly - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD Verified Purchase
Kenton/Rugolo Themes mostly from the 1940's transformed this time into Bossa Nova, with great success, partly due to Kentons' clever arrangements, full of subtle shifts and riffs employing the brass sections in thoughtful ways as a foil with the sax section. Kentons's piano is ever present (was there ever a better piano player suited for this music?) Check out the trumpet section unison chordal responses(Best on the West at that time) Great sound recording from Capitals' Studio A is the other factor here. Overall, very listenable and interesting,

Glen Gellatly

3.0 out of 5 stars Jobim, Where Art Thou? 15 Aug. 2013
By Mike D. - Published on Amazon.com

Perfectly nice easy listening album but, to my ears, not quite bossa nova. Rather than the fluidity that I've always associated with bossa nova, the arrangements are tight with a Latin tinge. I hear Cuban, Mexican and Brazilian influences, but in a more traditional vein - closer to Xavier Cugat than Stan Getz and Gilberto.

Kenton devotees will be pleased, but those in search of a more authentic bossa nova sound might want to search elsewhere

5.0 out of 5 stars Bossa Nova CD 17 July 2013
By Anthony J. Agostinelli - Published on Amazon.com

The sound is much better than the original LP...not only is the surface noise not there, but the range of sound is broader.
5.0 out of 5 stars Love the trombones 4 Oct. 2013
By Sir James - Published on Amazon.com

Stan Kenton was my very favorite "Big Band" and Bossa Nova my favorite beat. The power of Kenton fits the Bossa Nova well.
