Product Description

Set in Hollywood 1927, George Valentin is a silent movie superstar. The advent of the talkies will sound the death knell for his career and see him fall into oblivion but for young extra Peppy Miller, it seems the sky's the limit and major movie stardom awaits.
The Artist is a mute film, directed by Michel Hazanavicius; a new film using the language and some techniques from the old times; a very original, brilliant and seducing homage to the early years of the cinema. The brilliant and catchy original music is composed by Ludovic Bource in the spirit of Chaplin, Max Steiner, Franz Waxman, up to Bernard Hermann… and also referring to the big romantic symphonic repertoire from the 19th Century. Music speaks and replaces words. It takes part of the story and thus acquires a real importance.
Ludovic Bource has worked with Michel Hazanavicius in his past three features Mes amis, OSS 117: Cairo, Nest of Spies and OSS 117 – Lost in Rio.

Having seen the film, the Artist, at a special screening, at the begining of the year, I was impressed by the soundtrack music, which not only fitted the visual image but really seemed to capture the atmosphere of the silent and early sound period. The music on this disc cannot fail to please, it ranges from the dramatic to the lighter material which will set your feet tapping. The music is all beautifully written by Ludovic Bource. You will love it!

Amazing contemporary music that is both fascinating and troubling at the same time. On the basis of what's the trouble, and that all composers, living and dead, contemporary and past, classical and pop, are invariably influenced by those who came before them, my own personal concern revolved around who the main influence/s on this bold contemporary French composer might be (born 1970)? A main one is perhaps the great French composer Albert Roussel (1869-1937) (?) Anyway, I am no expert on French classical music, but I can say that this music is well worth listening to, and marks a new chapter in the panoply of stylish and dazzling French music, here written for the cinema.

A simple must-buy for those who watched The Artist at the cinema, and for those who like the silent movie genre - some wonderful music written by a man who has certainly earned the BAFTA and the Academy-Award-Nomination (as of 20th Feb 2012). It's just so emotive and great to play whatever the mood or time of day. I would thoroughly recommend this product!

I was a bit sceptical when I went to see the film, being a bit weary of gimmicks, but was very pleasantly surprised by the film and simply loved the soundtrack. The first thing I did after seeing the film was to get this CD. It seems that I enjoy it more everytime I listen to it.

The French black-and-while silent film The Artist, a tribute to Hollywood pioneers, won the Oscar for best picture at the Academy Awards. A superb soundtrack full of emotion and humour which is totally uplifting. An original score full of nostalgia for the golden days of the Hollywood silver screen.

I didn't particularly notice the soundtrack when I saw the film. I loved the film but only a couple of the musical backgrounds intrigued me. Then, I heard "George Valentin" played on a classic music station and then the Overture. I collect soundtracks so I emailed the presenter asking what the rest of the tracks sounded like. She said it was a fabulous CD so, on her recommendation, I bought it. I agree with her. It is wonderful stuff. I have played it over and over. I love to play it in the kitchen when I am cooking. It makes the chores seem lighter.... go ahead and get a copy for yourself.

I saw the film The Artist back in January and thought that the film was beautiful and exquisite. Throughout the whole film, this soundtrack from Ludovic Bource just blew me away and I thought I just had to get the music for the film. On listening to this soundtrack on its own, I feel as if I've transported back to the late 1920's early 1930's because of the feeling from the music. It's bouncy, emotional in places and it's extremely moving and lively.

20 of the tracks on this album are beautifully orchestrated and composed by the composer (these are the ones marked with an asterix on the back of the CD cover) whereas the other 4 are added tracks. It's difficult to choose a particular favourite track. I'm going to say the whole album is just great. It's up there with my favourite soundtracks of all time like 'The English Patient', 'Amelie', 'Braveheart', 'Dances With Wolves' and 'Schindler's List' to name but a few. This film score is sheer genius and it deserved to win not only the Oscar for Best Original Score but also the BAFTA and a host of other awards too.

The album opens up with 'The Artist Overture' and 23 tracks later finishes off with 'Peppy and George'. All in all then, this album is beautiful and a joy and a pleasure to listen to. I have listened to it a number of times on my car stereo and think it's a total knock out. Absolutely pleasurable. Highly recommended.

I assume you would only buy this if you've seen the film? A LOT of music on this one CD. Great for car journeys. It was an instant hit with my three young children (it reminded them of Tom and Jerry) and it makes me want to see the film again (which I will).
