Product Description

Product Description

In this fresh new look at a classic story, Russell Brand reinvents the role of loveable billionaire Arthur Bach, an irresponsible charmer who has always relied on two things to get by: his limitless fortune and the good sense of his lifelong nanny and best friend Hobson (Helen Mirren), to keep him out of trouble.

Kind-hearted, fun-loving, and utterly without purpose, Arthur spends every day in the heedless pursuit of amusement. But when his unpredictable public image threatens the staid reputation of the family foundation, Bach Worldwide, he is given an ultimatum: marry the beautiful but decidedly unlovable Susan Johnson (Jennifer Garner), an ambitious corporate exec who can keep him in line, or say goodbye to his billion-dollar inheritance and the only way of life he knows.

It's a deal Arthur would be inclined to take...if he hadn't just fallen for Naomi (Greta Gerwig), a New York City tour guide who shares his idealism and spontaneity. The independent Naomi sees Arthur not only for who he is, but for who he could be, and finally gives him a reason to take charge of his own life.

All he needs to do is stand up for what he wants. But at what cost?
With some unconventional help from Hobson-the one person who always believed he could do anything--Arthur will take the most expensive risk of his life and learn what it means to become a man.

Synopsis

--This text refers to the DVD edition.

Not impressed, it was not a patch on the original film with Dudley Moore and Liza Minnelli. Russel Brand appears to act like a mentally challanged adult, and you are left just feeling embarrassed for him, whereas when Dudley Moore was in the role of Arthur you felt sympathy for him. Arthur, played by Dudley Moore was conceivably believable, but Arthur, played by Russel Brand was just ludicrous! If you're old enough to remember the original film, and you loved it, my advice to you is to stay well clear of this version! That being said, Helen Mirren was her brilliant self, but I'm surprised she accepted the role in this movie.

I recall seeing the original a long time ago, but am not one to concern myself with comparing it to the original. This is a modern take on the Arthur Story and initially I thought Russell Brand would be awful, although I held back, he'd played some parts in other films okay, so why not give it a try.

Russell Brand (Arthur) is convincing, he's eccentric in himself and plays Arthur well, Helen Mirren works as his Nanny well too - the other actors lower this film a little, but as a bit of fun it has moments of laughter, romance, and warmth.

Some films I buy and never watch again, but actually I think I'm quite likely to watch this again.

4*'s - the other actors could have been better (in storyline and cast). Despite that I found it enjoyable.

Not a massive fan of russel brand but i thought i'd give this film ago and i was pleasantly surprised. Very well made and produced. Mixes some real laugh out loud moments with some deeper underlying story telling. crossed with heartbreak and bring a sense of real life challenging values. I found MR brand's character at times absolutely hilarious and yet at the same time strangely familiar and believable.

Would definitely recommend this to basically anyone as its so versatile.

I love Russell Brand but he does not suit this movie, great acting from Dame Helen Mirrien but Brand shouldn't have wasted his time he seems like a 2year old in this and his accent changes regularly. If you LOVE Russ like me AVOID-- keep to forgetting Sarah Marshall and Get him to the Greek.

I loved the original Arthur and it's sequel starring Dudley Moore and Liza Minelli and expected to not love this, but had some gift vouchers and thought I'd take a punt. Worthwhile, indeed it was. Russell Brand plays the lead, whose vaneer of childlike innocence and sense of fun attempts to play down the seriousness of his problems with addiction which are a reponse to personal sadness (actually now wondering if Mr Brand is actually playing himself). Whether Brand is being himself or not, it is still an enjoyable movie. All the cast do a good job, although I was a bit surprised that Jennifer Garner was 'the Susan woman' rather than Niomi (the bigger character). Also something happens with Hobson that does not happen in the original, but if you want to know what that is, you'll have to watch the film!

This is a lovely film, probably not quite as good as the original in my eyes but pretty blooming good. Give it a try.
By the way, I ordered this in February 2013, and when I checked the digital copy had expired.

I'm never sure if I'll like Russel Brand - sometimes I think he's hillarious, other times not - sort of hit and miss. This was a bit like that too, but never actually hilarious. I did enjoy it, it's a fun movie - Brand's a marmite performer I liked him, but I'm sure others won't... Helen Mirren was very good though and overall I thought it was about as good as the original, but not any better so that I find myself asking why they made it?

When I heard of they had decided to remake Arthur I was filled with my usual feelings of anger and disgust at the thought of another classic being destroyed. When I heard Russell Brand was playing Arthur my feelings hit a new level of anger.

After avoiding watching this like the plague I finally got round to watching the Blu Ray.

Well it¡¦s time to eat a rather large portion of humble pie (maybe I should eat the whole pie) as this is one of the finest remakes I have ever seen. While I¡¦m not a fan of Russell Brand normally, I have to admit he was wonderful in this film, in fact the whole cast was first class.

I have no problem giving this film 5 stars as I enjoyed every second of it.

Now what's the next remake I'm going to hate:-)
