This CD has potential. It helps understand just about all of the sounds of hte trombone. Alan Trudel is a great performer. He has all it takes. He explains through his music just about all of the things a trombone and it's player can ocamplish. I have a major collection of trombone cd's and this is at the top 7.

This is a tremendously satisfying set of recordings of the trombone and organ. I am going to particularly mention three tracks. First Holst's 'Duet for Trombone and Organ'. Since Holst was a trombone player he knows what the instrument is capable of. This is an early work and full of promise of the good things to come. Then - the Liszt 'Hosannah'. This is played on the bass trombone. Oh the depth and majesty of this glorious sound - awesome! The Belcke 'Fantasia' shows off to full effect many things that the trombone can do - whooping and blaring and singing. I have to listen repeatedly - what rapture of joy. The next statement is not critical but simply factual. The balance of the recording pushes the trombone playing of Alain Trudel to the fore and makes the organ an accompaniment. This is a strength rather than a weakness. This recording is trully labelled as 'The Art of the Trombone'. I admire this greatly.
