If you are a fan of comic artist Jock then this book is a must.
Jock is one of THE top artists working in comics today and this tome is packed to the brim with artwork from Jock's comic back catalogue as well as his movie work and Mondo prints.
Many pages of Jocks fantastic artwork are beautifully presented within its pages. I especially like the extra touches such as the acetate overlays of his ink work over the colour rendering.
Cannot recommend this book enough.
The text is good too and details how Jock approaches his art. I really love the use of clear plastic overlay on some of the pages, where you can see the initial comic sketch and then lift the overlay to see the finished art work underneath.
Whether you are an artist, a comic fan or just enjoy great art, this is a fantastic addition to your collection!
I'm a big fan of Jock's work and have some of his original comic book artwork, but seeing so much of it collected, in one place, is stunning
The Art of Jock is given the large hardcover coffee table book treatment. There are 160 pages and there's even an author, Will Dennis, assigned.
Mark Simpson, aka Jock, is a terrific comic artist. I love his style, the textural look and energy he gives to cover, the wonderful use of negative space and the way he designs his pages and covers. Below's the list of his commercial artworks that are featured in the book
- The Losers
- Batman: The Black Mirror
- Green Arrow: Year One
- Savage Wolverine
- Daredevil
- Wytches
- 2000 AD
- Judge Dredd
In addition to all that, there are also the beautiful posters created for the popular pop culture company Mondo. I love Mondo's posters and Jock's interpretation for the selected movies. There are Shaun of the Dead, The Thing, Pan's Labyrinth, Cannibal Holocaust and more. He has also created concept art for films such as Dredd, Ex Machina, Battleship. I read that he has contributed art for Star Wars Episode VIII but those were not included.
Highly recommend to fans of Jock and comic art.
