This is a fantastic book, particularly for aspiring flautists without immediate access to a teacher
I spent 22 years of my life as a classical guitar instructor and began the flute as a second instrument. For me this book was a real find.

1 Basic Principles and Pedagogy
This deals with the instrument, playing position, basic embouchure, basic articulation, breath control and beginning instruction, a huge fund of information, with practical exercises.
2 Artist Performance
Headings include Tonal Development, Quality and Variety, Harmonics.
Articulation discusses varieties of the Single Attack and Multiple Tonguing.
Technical Development includes Finger Dexterity, Trills and Tremolos, Altissimo and Alternate Fingerings
Pointers on performance includes Rhythm and Articulation, Phrasing and Interpretation, use of Vibrato, Intonation in ensemble and ornamentation
Performance on other flutes discusses the E flat Flute, the Alto Flute in G, The Bass Flute in C and the Piccolo
An extensive 3-page bibliography completes this excellent work
