'The best self-teaching book and reference book in electronics … The beauty and fun of electronics shows through.' Radio Communication
'Full of clever circuits and sharp insights, but with a surprising minimum of mathematics … The depth is genuine, as is the richness of examples, data and apt tricks.' Scientific American
'Far and away the finest book on the subject of electronics … in the last decade. I cannot recommend this book highly enough to anyone whose research or experiments require some electronics.' Optical Engineering
'Another electronics textbook that became an international best-seller … the book is renowned for presenting the techniques that circuit designers actually use.' IEEE Spectrum

At first, when I bought the third edition, I missed that style, but not for long. This edition has matured and is more adapted to use as a reference to find solutions to real design problems. It is not complete, but then that is impossible. Items as crosstables of opamps and other devices are really invaluable as you rarely find them in liturature. When theory is needed, the formula is there, but the approach is hands-on . Two big problems: too heavy to carry and too exquisit to use in the field. By registering at Cambridge University Press, one can download the full chapter 9 on voltage regulation and power conversion. The biggest merit of this book, and more specific, this edition, to me, is that it is helping to develope an organic feeling for electronics. And that, indeed, is to be considered an Art.
There are circuits that can be lifted as they are from the book and dropped into your project and there are others that will give food for thought.
If you need chapter and verse on biasing or layout then it is the work of a few moments to find it.
In the future there will be a second volume with even more advanced material that I’m ancient to read from cover to cover, like I’m reading this first volume.
If you are new to electronics you should also start reading at the same time the book Learning the art of electronics, it will teach you in a very intuitive way all the first steps with practical labs to jump start you in electronics.
On a personal note, the authors are wonderful people. Reading this book, it’s like having a calm and consistent voice in the background sharing deep secrets of electronics design with us.
Spotted this one recently & its seriously good. This is the working engineers book for a new generation of engineers.
The two Stroud books ( Engineering Mathematics/Further Engineering Mathematics) plus this is you sorted for most jobs below microwave frequencies.
