Review

Issue 61, Summer 05 [This book] exhaustively describes the basic materials and techniques for goldwork, but without a single diagram. This also applies to the working instructions for the projects. I found their level appropriate for novice goldworkers, but the designs were pedestrian. It would have been nice to have seen some of the source material. I found it a singularly uninspiring book. * West Country Embroiderers * Jun/Jul 05, Issue 35 Containing 15 beautiful projects, this book will inspire you reach for your needle. The projects, which incorporate elements of historical designs, have a contemporary look. Worked on a variety of items, including a lampshade, picture frame and bracelet, it's good to see such a traditional technique used to decorate everyday items. Concentrating on simple couching techniques, and embellished with beads and sequins, the designs will appeal to beginnners and experienced alike. All of the techniques are clearly explained and the designs are accompanied by clear instructions and actual-size templates. * Stitch * Mar/Apr 05 ...[this book] should prove an inspiration to both the more experienced embroiderer and newcomers and will help you create your own designs. The 15 beautiful projects in this book rely on the simple couching stitch to capture the thread to the cloth and all have clear instructions and deailed templates. There is so much that can be done with goldwork; it can be combined with lush fabrics, brightly coloured silk threads, beads and sequins to create the most gorgeous textures and designs. * Fabrications *
