No matter how well you think you know London -- its history and art and rich array of architecture -- this book will open your eyes to any number of wonders that you might otherwise have walked right past. Walking is something I love to do when I visit London, through any of its unique neighborhoods and winding byways. In a city that still has visible traces of its days as a Roman outpost (Londinium, a walk with open eyes and a curious mind never goes without reward. Consider this book by Ann Saunders to be like having a personal guide. Pick a chapter, read up on the area, and then go out exploring. It is truly a gift that someone so knowledgeable, with such obvious enthusiasm for her subject, has takent he time to compile such a resource. And given that the subject city is well over 2000 years old, it will be a long, long time before this book loses its relevance.

This was such an old version and sadly I couldn't tell before I bought it.

5.0 out of 5 stars An excellent architecture reference 11 May 2006
By Helen C. Sheward - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback
I had borrowed this book from our public library, but soon realised that this was more than a simple read - it was something I wanted on my own bookshelves. Ann Saunders not only describes London's architecture, but delves into the history (which in some cases, can go as far back as the Romas occupation) of London's neighborhoods with their distinctive buildings, public and private, as well as those who lived there in the past, and/or the artists and sponsors who were responsible for their building.

I was delighted to see you had a copy, ordered it fast, and am now enjoying "revisiting" London at my leisure and in the comfort of my own home. A valuable addition to my library.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent, excellent book! 4 Feb. 2012

I echo the first review. This book is so much more than just art and architecture. The author delves into geology, geography, history and even the paranormal. Extremely interesting, very thorough and very informative.
3.0 out of 5 stars It's Just O.K. 7 Jun. 2015

O.K. book. Nothing special. The architectural guides available on London are better than this publication.
