About the Author

Nicole MacDonald is a thirty something year old Kiwi who loves to read and moonlights as a novelist. From a young age she fantasized about being the heroine in the books and/or movies she watched and credits the series 'Buffy the Vampire Slayer' for really inspiring her. Writing only occurred to her a few years ago after reading an abysmal tale with silly useless females where upon she decided to write a tale solely for herself where the girls got to kick butt without the usual sob story--betrayed/abused/abandoned etc. That little tale eventuated into the BirthRight Trilogy. Nicole's current daydream is that Joss Whedon (aka the genius of film) will discover the BirthRight Trilogy and demand the film rights to it. Until then, she's working on several other writing projects and aiming to explore the world with her fiance.

I enjoyed this a lot. It is an interesting crossover mixture of Young Adult romance and traditional Fantasy with a hint of urban feel. I'm a mature male who loves epic fantasy, and yet I still found this book engaging. Although many of the themes have been seen before, it felt quite fresh. The fact that there are a quartet of main characters added an extra dimension. I will add the rest of the series to my kindle reading list. I actually found the multiple views added interest. As soon as you realise the Cat is the only first person POV, it flows well.

Four young women from New Zealand cast a "love spell" to find their soul mates and end up being transported to another world. An interesting start to a cracking novel.
The Arrival has good world-building and the characters actually come up with a reason they can speak with and understand the locals. The interraction and 'relationship development's' between the girls and their guides/rescuers The Griffon Guards is not too cloying and girly. People may look at the 'blurb' for the book and think it's one for the girls but trust me - it isn't.
The magic system is clever and works well and not just enough time is spent with the girls learning to harness their abilities.
The one thing that troubled me at first was the multiple PoVs but once I was into the story I hardly even noticed it and to be honest I think the style actually added to the story.
The book ended on the biggest cliffhanger ending I believe I have come across yet and I really cannot wait for the second book in the Birthright series to be published

A thoroughly entrancing start, getting to know and relate to the main characters of the story and wanting to know more. It is well written without the usual grammar and spelling mistakes that have distracted me in similar books by other authors. I am looking forward to reading the next excerpt in this Trilogy.

This book was recommended to me by a friend. I wasn't sure about it at the start - the first couple of chapters didn't particularly inspire me. But I kept reading. ..and the story got better and better. ...really curious now to find out what happens next!:)

Really great book would highly reccomend it to everyone (all my friends are reading it too) so far i have read it 3 times and decided to review it.

1. Yes the narrotor of the story changes from the 4 main characters(Cat,Kassie,Sian and Loi) quite frequently though once you get passed the first chapter or two you can tell who is the narrator as you get to know the girls (as they all have diffrent ways of thinking and personalites)but if you ever get lost just think of the narrator as Cat as it is mostly from her POV.

2.As far as the story goes it is really good and well thought out dont want to waste it for anyone so i wont go into to much detail,i'll just say this Hot guys, magic ,Evil Beings,Dragons, elf's, bitchy ex girlfriends, twist with one of the HOT guys and of course the Griffons ;-)whats n't to love ;-)

3.I'm always reading shifter and vampire books and decided to give it a try and am very happy i did at £2.21 it's a bargin !

This book has been re-uploaded on 29/11/11 to include a map and glossary of characters. It has also been fully re-formatted and edited.

so that should also help if you get a bit lost.

I found this book interesting as it depicts strong female characters who are capable in many different areas. It made me pick up the book and wanting to continue reading, sorry dogs short walks today! The story moves between the characters and that is sometimes confusing but not off-putting. I do enjoy the magical creatures and the magic described doesn't feel far fetched. All in all, a very enjoyable read.

The author had a post on amazon.co.uk asking for reviews in exchange for a PDF version of this book. I asked for one, and got a lovely email back and a copy of the book, but as I've not had a chance to sit and read this for 4 months, simply as it's complex and you need your head screwed on with the multi POV, she maybe by now thinks I asked for a freebie and wasn't going to bother. Or she hasn't given it a second thought, which is more than likely, but if the former, sincere apologies, I DID ENJOY YOUR BOOK.

When I first attempted to read it, I realised pretty quickly that it is perhaps more aimed at YA than a 42 year old woman, as I initially found it a bit hard to get into, because of the multi POV aspect. Once I got over this and the PDF Word layout, I got into it. It's not something that I will go back and read again, as it is not a quick read - you need to take time out to take it all in and get into the world, but it was interesting and funny. I found it to be a mix of chick-lit, fantasy and romance all blended in, a bit topsy-turvy, which added to the confusion, but made it quirky.

It's about 4 modern girls who are tired of guys who are brain-dead morons and so decide to cast a spell to find some decent specimens. Well, they got specimens, but not of the variety that they were hoping for, as they found themselves transported into a weird, wonderful and wacky world.

They realise that they don't need guys to fight their battles for them, or in fact fight the various monsters that they come across, but when the Guys on Griffons gang appear from out of the sky and there happens to be 4 singletons amongst them and each gets one of the girls to guard, that was me in my element: a hint of romance. Plus lots of action and adventure.

It's not a complete tale in that it's book 1 of a trilogy and does end with a cliffhanger, but yes, I would read the next, even if I had to pay for it. Thank you NM for the opportunity of reading this book.
