Well written. Very good history from perspective of the German Wehrmacht. A bit dry, but I took into consideration his English skill as he was German

4.0 out of 5 stars With Vol.1, a nice pair 30 Dec. 2015
By Keith Bickel - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Hardcover Verified Purchase
I ordered both volumes with a jaundiced eye as Stackpole, in the distant past, had disappointed & from the description expected little more than a Schiffer type, almost passably translated, unit history. To my incredible glee this was not the case. The translators while doing a wonderful job also added a pile of very useful footnotes on the page they refer to rather than in the back of the book. There isn't much on 3PD in English (or any other language) but this pair is a joy to read with numerous pictures that are unique to these volumes. The maps are large & uncluttered as well.

Volume 2 begins with the defensive battles in late winter 1941-42, to the Caucasus summer '42, the retreat to Kharkov early 1943, Zitadel & back eastward through Ukraine, through Romania & Poland, to Hungary in early 1945, finally to Austria & surrender.

4.0 out of 5 stars Armored Bears Vol.2 23 Aug. 2013

As you read this story it hits you how later in the war the Germans made the Russians pay dearly for every mile of land they recovered. The amount of material, tanks, truck, artty that. the Russians lost is unbelievable, besides the number of killed personnel. Great read that sometimes gets bogged down with military jargon. Dan H
