As all those who collect books from the Osprey series, some are good, some are not so good and some are excellent. I am glad to say that I found this one on the disastrous Adowa campaign brilliant in all its details, from the uniforms to the actual recounting of the various engagement that led to the final showdown at Adowa itself. Although there really isn't that much space, this book manages to give you all the necessary details about Italy's colonial ambitions and how it tried to get a foot hold in the quagmire that Ethiopia was. Typically, the Westerners underestimated the resourcefulness of their adversary as well as their knowledge of their own terrain.

This book is a perfect example of how books in this series should be written! Well done Osprey.

Sean McLachlan's brief overview of the war waged by the might of Italy against the relatively primitive Ethiopian forces is a good introduction for those who may wish to seek further detail.

Raffeale Riggeri's illustrations are superb.

Overall well worth the money.
