I was never one for reading much, English Literature being my worst subject at school. But I picked up this book and to my amazement didn't put it down, right through Eastenders, Holby City and New Tricks, with a short break at nine o'clock to make a cup of tea for my wife. I have never before read a book non-stop right through to the end. Maybe all books should be written this way, and maybe there will be a Michael Quinn Part Two.

As an Armagh exile I really enjoyed reading about places and people that I remember! ( I remember his Mums little shop and the other shops in that area very well.) He describes how living in Armagh in the 50's-60's was, and although my experiences are from a different "culture" I still could relate to his growing up experiences

An Armagh Childhood

This book is a treasure. Michael Quinn's ability to describe the mind of a child is remarkable. It brings, like nothing else I have read, the two kinds of tears together, the tears of agony and the tears of fun.

My husband and I very much enjoyed this book-Michael's honesty, his humanity and his humour. As a bit of a creative writer myself,I found the immediacy of his writing style so tangible and evocative.I loved this book!

This book is the best description of childhood I have ever read. The humour, the pain, the love. I would like to read more. Already my wife has devoured it at one sitting and thought it wonderful.
