Where have I been all of Chelsea Handler's life? I had no idea how funny, how brilliant she is... she is too clever for words." (New York Post)

"If the name Chelsea Handler doesn't mean anything just yet, it will shortly. The girl's going to be huge. Has to be the funniest and most candid book about shagging ever written by a woman" (Daily Mirror)

"A rib-tickling affair that will leave you doubled up in no time. Do we love her tales!" (OK! Magazine)

"Chelsea Handler is a terrific comedian and a hilarious writer." (Jay Leno)

"Chelsea Handler writes like Judy Blume, if Judy Blume were into vodka, Ecstasy, and sleeping with midgets and nineteen-year-olds." (Jennifer Weiner)

I had never heard of Chelsea Handler until a recent trip to the States found me awake at 11pm every night in motels across the country, sometimes with very little to do. I stumbled across her show on E! and laughed out loud a lot.
When I saw this book in Barnes and Noble I thought I'd give it a shot, not expecting too much.
Two days later I was on the last page after many tears had poured down my face. It takes much for a book to make me audibly laugh (cry- yes, laugh- not so much) and 'Are you There Vodka' certainly achieved that.
This is not high class literature and will achieve no nominations in recognised awards in the UK, but it is funny and witty and completely inappropriate at times (just like Handler herself).
It is now swiftly making the rounds through my girlfriends and the female members of my family and (so far) all have agreed with my sentiments. There are too many 'favourite moments' to mention- but one of the first gems is the story of her first DUI charge.
Enjoy!

First I should point out I watch Chelsea Lately on the television, and knew exactly what I was going to get. It was the first book I downloaded on my new kindle, and I am so glad I did.
I gave it five stars because it entertained me from the start the the finish.
Each chapter gives a different story, if you are easily offend then don't buy this, it's really not for you. If you can find her program on the television, watch it if you laugh then buy this book. I read some passages out to my mum, (mild ones) and they made her laugh.
I have recommended this to friends already and am buying it for a friend's birthday. If you like Keith lemon your going to like this, buy it now you know you want to.

Made me laugh a lot but maybe goes too far at times. I can cope with fairly crude humour but there were examples in here that were too much so one star off for that. This is a love/ hate book. Chelsea Handler is extremely rude and writes like she really doesn't care who reads it. Even her family don't escape from being the object of her jokes. The only serious criticism I have is the section with the "small" person which was too much.

Chelsea rhymes with crazy and that results in "Are you there Vodka? It's me, Chelsea" or Yelsea as the author was called by her cleaning lady.

I bought this book after coming across the series that were inspired by this book and that I found absolutely hilarious. After looking around for more of Chelsea Handler (including Youtube clips) I realised that she and I had a lot in common. Not afraid of telling what we thought, even if it was rude or offensive. This book was destined to be in my hands, so I got it on Amazon.

No, it's not highly offensive or racist, although some parts are. You should not see it as offensive, rather as embracing all the positives and negatives of a community. It is quite refreshing to read someone who can make fun of Jews, Muslims, Christians and many more without being afraid of getting called to court by some association.

This book is not the most hilarious book I've read but it is very funny and very entertaining. It is funny in the sense that Chelsea, for some reason, manages to be in the center of those crazy situation and can get out of most of them with brutal honesty, humour and some class.

I would recommend this book for someone who is light humoured and will not take offense at what Chelsea thinks. A person who is looking for a good, entertaining read and who is looking forward to laughing a lot. It's a great book, very easy to read and some great stories.

This book is funny. Warning - Do not read in public. You could well draw attention to yourself by bursting into snorting laughter. Some of the subject matter is a little controversial and no doubt very tongue in cheek so if you are very PC you'll probably hate it. I was given this book originally as a gift and have since bought it for friends. An easy read so if reading isn't really your thing it won't be too taxing plus each chapter has a different subject matter so it can be easily picked and put down. I'll be buying more Chelsea Handler's books in future that's for sure.

After catching the her talk-show "Chelsea Lately" and loving EVERY minute of it, i was thrilled to learn that she was not only a stand-up comedian and hostess but also an author!

This book did not disappoint!

"Are you there Vodka? It's Me, Chelsea" has a very loose autobiographical structure to it, starting with a tale when Miss Handler is 9yrs old and then leaping forward several years later each time to particularly funny moments in her life. Chelsea's observational style is accessible, witty and laugh-out-loud funny. Chelsea's appeal is similar to quintessentially British humour: make the subject crass but discuss with impeccable grammar and an impressive vocabulary! I've managed to read the book relatively quickly but I would highly recommend the book due to the fact it has a high re-read factor; I can guarantee you that you will have firm favorite chapters in the book.

I would say, to anyone considering buying the book, that a good understanding of American pop-culture and A-to-Z list celebrities will help otherwise a lot of the references may be lost along with some of the inferences (if you've not up on your USA celebs, I recommend having an internet search engine handy!)

After reading this book, Chelsea's 1st book "My Horizontal Life" is already on my wish list.
Need a belly-laugh? Buy the Book!
