'Are you a Boy or are you a Girl?' is unlike any kind of children's book you've seen before. With your help, we can talk gender creatively and with confidence, and assist parents and teachers the world over. What makes this book new is that it leaves it up to the reader to decide the gender of the main character. It's a book that includes all forms of gender expression, and it allows parents and children to begin to break down the barriers of gender and to talk about what different stereotypes and roles mean to them.

So.I really do not know what all the fuss is about. There is nothing in here that I would feel uncomfortable about reading to any young child, Indeed this book is written very much in the same vein and that classic children's book "The Turbulent Term of Tyke Tyler" by Gene Kemp.
This book is, like Tyke Tyler, one of the best feminist books available for young children, something my friends and I are always on the lookout for, and it is a must, for any parent or school that wants to promote gender equality and help kids understand these issues. It is written to help promote discussion and debate about this amongst young children and as such it is a rare and important find. A real must-read.
I also think a book like this is great for kids to understand people who are different. And to stop hate and bullying in schools.
