Format: Audio CD
Black’s wryly titled fourth album was the first to be issued on his own Chaos Reins record label (later renamed Nero Schwarz) and stands out as being slightly more eclectic than its predecessors. ‘Leaving Song’ is one of his very best uptempo numbers, there are no shortage of moving ballads and ‘Paper Crown’ even exhibits a Middle Eastern influence. This variety is a plus with the styles of music gelling nicely together, and all of the songs are still very evidently from the mind of Colin Vearncombe.

By 1993, when this album was released, chart success was already behind Black but this is certainly as strong as his previous work. Synthesizers had largely been abandoned by this point, meaning that the production doesn’t sound too dated, and the songwriting is as impressive as ever. Of particular note however, is just how good a singer Vearncombe was and both the strength and range of his voice stand out across the ten songs.

Possibly his best album up to this point.
