I'm a programmer by trade, and recently started wondering how it (ie electronics circuits) all works. And maybe start hacking in the future. Arduino is a great tool to get started with simple projects, and I thought this kit could a nice entry point. Although it has a few flaws, I had a lot of fun going through the 15 toy projects presented in the booklet. Except for a soldering iron that you'll need in the last project, a 9V battery from project 9 and on, and a Philips screwdriver, no special tool is required, but I found a multimeter was really useful to understand what's going on: is there any voltage, current, does this sensor have a resistance? Highly recommended.
The projects start slow and easy and build on top of each others. New concepts are usually pretty well explained, but you'll sometimes need to search for more information on the Internet to really understand what's going on. With the spread of arduino there is plenty of documentation out there, so no worries. The schematics in the booklet are easy to understand, although they sometimes don't match exactly with what you get with the kit. I found it easy enough to adjust the drawings and make it work.
The Arduino software sucks really, the IDE is ugly and the connection unreliable. On the flip side, the examples of this kit have already been typed in so one can just load them in a two clicks and upload them to the board. It's not what I was really interested in in the first place, but worth a note I think.
My main gripe with this kit is that not all the components match up with each others. It starts at the very beginning when screwing the board onto the "wood" base (looks like plastic to me). Some pins are protruding from the back of the Arduino board and it just doesn't screw flat.

This product is genuine so helps to support Arduino project. Packaging in on par with Apple products. No need to down load instructions. So far I am up to project 5 also I am made my own traffic lights sketch. There is nothing wrong with the Chinese products are I have just ordered a starter kit, As others have stated you should by at least one genuine product to support Arduino.
Having download some instructions from another supplier, the Ardunio ones are far superior. I am new to programming there is plenty of information on the web on how to incorporate other items into your project.

We all know the Arduino is a great piece of hardware, but this kit is absolutely amazing in that it helps you get a strong foundation for all your future projects. The book's really well written, but the software is frankly a bit lacking. No missing pieces, and decent build quality. Recommended!

Amazing kit - everything you need to get started with microcontroller electronics. Well packed and with a very good projects book to get you started. If you're already in to programming, and use Visual Studio, you can also get a free Arduino plugin from Visual Micro, and do all your Arduino programming from there (the Arduino programming interface is OK, and works well, but might seem a bit limited if you're used to something with more functionality, like Visual Studio). And there's lots of other free stuff out there as well - make sure you check out the main Arduino web site, as a good starting point.

All in all, well worth the money, and could be the start of a lifetime's obsession!

If you want to get into the mystical amazing world of Arduino, then don't buy anything other than this golden product. It is so definitely worth the money and its book of useful projects it outstandingly awesome; very easy to follow, interesting projects with a lot of cool components such as a servo and dc motor too! I particularly love the wooden base and breadboard setup! Massively adds to the enthusiasm for each project. One of the best purchases I've made in a long time.

A good starter kit with a useful project book. Has most of the components you would need for a wide variety of projects and will be useful for project snot necessarily in the book. The installation of the arduino development software was not so straightforward as I use Ubuntu on my laptop but once I had found the tweaks necessary to get the software to work I was able to go through the introductory projects easily.

A great little kit to get you started with electronics. The design of the box is absolutely stunning.

I would also like to comment on the quality of the included project guide. It's a proper book, not just a little leaflet, and includes a helpful resistor colour chart and explanations of how electricity works (e.g. Ohm's Law).

Very good kit. Chose this due to other reviews. The instruction / project book is very good and clear. Had UNO board connected to the PC and first program working within a couple of hours. Would recommend this for both beginners wanting to learn about electronic principals and for the more experienced wanting to create projects. The components are of a reasonable quality. The UNO board is clever and versatile, very useful that it will continue to run its program without the PC being connected so could be set up to interface with all kinds of 3rd party equipment that require logic. (would require power source though). Looking forward to playing around more with it.
