- Made With 99.9% Pure Silver: Arctic Silver 5 uses three unique shapes and sizes of pure silver particles to maximize particle-to-particle contact area and thermal transfer.
- High-Density: Arctic Silver 5 contains over 88% thermally conductive filler by weight. In addition to micronized silver, Arctic Silver 5 also contains sub-micron zinc oxide, aluminum oxide and boron nitride particles. These thermally-enhanced ceramic particles improve the compound's performance and long-term stability.
- Controlled Triple-Phase Viscosity: Arctic Silver 5 does not contain any silicone. The suspension fluid is a proprietary mixture of advanced polysynthetic oils that work together to provide three distinctive functional phases. As it comes from the syringe, Arctic Silver 5's consistency is engineered for easy application. During the CPU's initial use, the compound thins out to enhance the filling of the microscopic valleys and ensure the best physical contact between the heatsink and the CPU core. Then the compound thickens slightly over the next 50 to 200 hours of use to its final consistency designed for long-term stability.
- Not Electrically Conductive: Arctic Silver 5 was formulated to conduct heat, not electricity.
- Absolute Stability: Arctic Silver 5 will not separate, run, migrate, or bleed.

I have always believed that when it comes to certain PC components, there is no point in buying cheap as you will always end up having to replace it sooner; thermal paste is one of them.
If you don't know, thermal paste is used to create a thermally fused bridge between a chip such as a CPU with a heat sink; this is done to ensure as much heat can be dissipated from the chip as quickly as possible. Why? Because we don't want anything to overheat and potentially cause permanent damage.
Packaging: This came in a clear resealable bag. The tube itself is a spring loaded syringe that feels strong.
Ease of use:
I recommend sacrificing a small amount to start with as it is nearly always slightly watery compared to the rest of the tube. Firstly, you MUST wipe off any old thermal paste from the heat sink and chip that you wish to apply this too. I recommend using 99% rubbing alcohol and cotton buds to work off any residue.
Once clean, apply a small line to the chip and very carefully put the heat sink down evenly so not to smear the paste. Tighten in a cross motion, that is, tighten screws as opposite pairs so that the load is even across the heat sink. Doing this will help spread the line of thermal paste in an even manner. Many people think you need to cover the chip entirely, you do not, don't forget, the heat sink is in contact with the chip anyway and the paste only serves as a very fine bridge between the two.
I have used this on so any PCs and have only ever seen decreases in temperature. Notable examples include repairing an old Xbox 360 using different screws for the heat sink and replacing the paste with this stuff. The Xbox no longer overheats and still works now.
This specific order was used for an old Acer Aspire Revo Nettop. In order to upgrade the hard drive I had to remvoe the heat sink. Because th eheat sink was coming off, I needed to replace the thermal paste. Running Kodi before showed idle CPU temps of 70-75 degrees. Since replacing, I haven't seen it go over 71 and idles at around 63. It seems to be often the case that factory used thermal paste just isn't as good quality as the dearer ones such as this.
Value: Considering I still have at least 3g left, I'd say that I will get another three big uses out of this tube, and at £5.99 delivered next day, this is great value.
- Spring loaded syringe
- Thick compound
- Excellent quality
- Paste separates in storage (but all seem to do that)
If you are looking for a thermal paste, buy this, you will not be disappointed.
This is very unusual for Artic Silver 5, and due to unexpected problem I had find me a replacement that day, and that was cooler Masters nano Diamond same as on this page https://www.amazon.co.uk/Cooler-Master-MGZ-NDSG-N15M-R1-Ultra-High-performance/dp/B018WJZDR0/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1489059489&sr=8-1&keywords=cooler%2Bmaster%2Bnano%2Bdiamond&th=1 which according to the missus was the best the shop had in stock, at some £9 for 4ml was a better deal considering no waiting period to resolve issue.
So hence its a 3 star review at this time.
Ill say that the Nano diamond is excellent stuff and without a comparative benchtest Im very happy with results so that may be my goto thermal paste or MX4, before going into liquid metals territory.
Ever since Artic Silver 5 was introduced to market, I have used it as the defacto standard thermal paste on any builds or rebuilds that go past my bench.
Recently used to replace some pre-applied OEM paste and Im fairly happy with the results as usual.
Until a better thermal conducting, more reliable, easy to apply and cooling solution friendly thermal paste comes along, I see no reason to stray from this Artic Silver 5 set standard.
Despite having used liquid metals, I dont consider these a fool proof or standard thermal conductor but rather a very specific speciality item.
Firstly, I should mention that I am only peripherally aware of the depth to the world of home PC builds & maintenance.
I bought this as I needed to clean out my fan and heatsink on my 10-year old "gaming laptop" (I can hear you groaning from here, trust me, I know, but I was young and foolish, please forgive me).
On arrival, I was a bit surprised by how small the package was, but after watching a comparison video of application methods, I realised that this applicator is more than enough to do the job multiple times over.
Cleaning all the old thermal paste away with some lint-free q-tips, I applied the paste and in minutes I was back up and running. The difference was massive and surprising - clearly something I should have done many, many years ago.
Package was delivered super-promptly & nice'n secure. Can't ask for more, really.
Don't believe anyone that says make a central pea-sized blob as that was the cause of my initial issue, make five blobs as on the face of a dice and you'll get a much more even spread.
I have used this Thermal compound over the years and have never been disappointed, yes there are other good makes but I guess when you're happy you're happy. The compound can be preceded by the cleaner and preparer fluid and these can also be purchased as a trio on Amazon.
This compound will help to keep the temperatures down and get the heat dissipated quicker.
