After the epic battle in the previous book in the series, the city is still recovering from its aftermath as is Ashwini who was badly injured.

Ashwini is a Guild Hunter and like all the others, she has supernatural powers. Whilst she is recovering from an injury, a mummified dog is found and her boss asks her to investigate. What should have been a straightforward investigation turns into a nightmare due to the nature of the deterioration found in the dog. This is followed by another human casualty.

Janvier is a Vampire who idolises Ashwini and he helped to nurse her back to health, when she was injured. In the previous books, whenever his name was mentioned to Ashwini, she threatened to kill him but in a good natured sort of way. In this book we find out what they really feel for each other but Ashwini has secrets which stop her from forming a relationship. They are now working together to find a killer who preys on young women and they make the perfect team. Then, there is Naasir who is a Vampire with a difference. Between them, they bring humour to this otherwise gruesome situation.

I have enjoyed every book in this series and this one is no different. It brings with it, danger, betrayal, suspense, cruelty, friendship, love and loyalty. I would recommend to those who like to read the paranormal genre.

There are 4 authors in the paranormal genre who I recommend repeatedly and who have given me countless hours of pleasure reading whilst immersed in the worlds and characters they create. Nalini Singh is one of those 4, she creates magic with words and immerses you into a vivid, colourful world that is totally 3D in your mind because of the richness, depth, emotion and magic in each and every page. Archangels, angels, vampires and humans, mortal and immortal are seamlessly interwoven, you cannot help but become invested in these characters. Whilst Elena and Raphael are the focal point the secondary characters take centre stage at different points through this series and such an example is this one, Archangel’s Shadows.

If you haven’t read the other books I would strongly suggest that you do so in order not to miss any of the details and subtleties of the series.

Ashwini and Janvier have been circling each other, teasing and flirting for quite some time, we’ve seen them sparring both verbally and physically!

"You made me traipse through the bayou for weeks," she muttered now. "Then, right when I had you, you made nice with the angel you'd p*ssed off." It wasn't the first time he'd done that either. "You knew how mad that made me---why did you keep doing it?"

Lifting their clasped hands, he pressed a kiss to her knuckles. "I was courting you."

Ash has her reasons for refusing to get closer to him but our Cajun hottie is persistent, patient and loyal. Yes we all knew he was gonna get her in the end but I had no clue that Ms Singh would do it how she has, unexpected, beautiful, and surprising.

“I’ll show you things that’ll make you laugh in delight, scream in passion, cry for the sheer joy of it.

I couldn't put this latest book down. Ms Singh knows how to weave a tale and you are right there with all the main protagonists. I love the relationships between them and the way the individual characters are growing. If you enjoy urban fantasy then this series is for you but I would suggest you read all the books in order to get the most out of them. Ms Singh you are a fabulous writer and I love reading your books - thank you!

Although I enjoyed this, it was what I would call an easy read. This series has become somewhat formulaic which is a shame. It's as though Ms Singh has tired of the characters and each one is like a child's cut out cardboard doll with different outfits where the tabs fit over the doll's body to make changes but the doll remains the same. New plots please.

I love Nalini Singh books, I do, but I struggled with this book. I especially love the psy changeling series, which I think are amazing, and I had enjoyed the guild Hunter series up until now. I'd rate all her previous books 5 stars. However, I found this book gory, depressing and difficult to finish, with inconsistencies which make the story difficult to get into. This is a great shame considering I'd been looking forward to it!

I love The Guild Hunter Series. Nalini Singh is such a talented writer. Her heroines kick ass and their lovers are strong and sexy with an infinite need to protect and love their woman. What's not to love about that?

Ash and Janvier finally get their story and it is in parts heartbreaking, exciting and sexy as hell. I loved this book. It's definitely up their with Archangel's Blade which is one of my all time favourite books.

My advice would be to read the books in order and their short story. There are lots of references to their shared past in this book.

It was good to stay in touch with Ellie and Raphael. D and Honor also feature. Naasir appeared a lot so maybe his story will be next? Whoever Nalini chooses to write about next I can't wait.
